Contractors and customers often ask how the LOXONE system differs from a KNX system. First of all, both systems are independent solutions for automating and controlling technical equipment in all kinds of buildings. Thanks to the LOXONE KNX Extension, KNX-capable components can also be integrated into the LOXONE universe, providing visualization and many automation and logic functions at low cost.

Whether high-quality LED lights, modern access systems, sensors or actuators and much more – over the past 10+ years, we have created a portfolio of software & hardware that covers the vast majority of requirements in home & building automation. If you want, you can work exclusively within this closed LOXONE universe without having to do without important functions.
The big advantage: everything is configured simply via plug&play and works perfectly together. It just works. We are so sure of this that we give our partners a function guarantee within the LOXONE system.

But we don’t shut ourselves off from other systems. Whether via network, DALI, Modbus, RS485, KNX and many more: as long as there is a suitable interface, we are open to all systems.

Conclusion: LOXONE is only a proprietary system if you want to use it as one. The numerous open interfaces make it easy to integrate countless other manufacturers.

Smart Home solutions operated via the cloud are often accessed by logging in on a manufacturer’s website. This login can become a central point of attack. In the LOXONE system, there is no central node or external point of attack that can be cracked, because logging in to the Miniserver happens exclusively via the Miniserver itself – which is located in the customer’s home and does not need an internet connection to perform its tasks.

Every LOXONE system is protected by the Miniserver’s security mechanisms, ongoing security updates and general network security (in the hands of the user).

Our products and software tools are designed to work reliably in 24/7 continuous operation for the lifetime of a building.

The Miniserver is the central control unit of every LOXONE installation. That’s why we paid particular attention to its reliability. The Miniserver has no moving parts at all, such as fans. It also works in an extremely energy-efficient way, so heat generation is not an issue anyway. A Miniserver failure is therefore extremely unlikely.

Should individual sensors or actuators fail unexpectedly, this has no effect on the rest of the system.

If desired, a LOXONE installation works entirely without an internet connection. Only individual services, such as remote access via the App, are then unavailable. An internet outage therefore has no effect on the functionality of a LOXONE installation.

No, LOXONE has no territorial protection.

No contract is signed. However, we have set out our principles for good cooperation in our Partner Guidelines. By registering as a partner, you confirm that you comply with these guidelines, which aim at fair cooperation. Beyond that, our partner program is based on transparency, and we treat everyone equally when it comes to partner levels and conditions.

The home and building automation market moves fast. LOXONE continuously launches new hardware and software products, enabling additional functions. For a successful business, it’s essential to always stay up to date. LOXONE works with the best electricians, installers and others to offer customers only the best installation and the best experience. That’s why it’s important to us that our LOXONE Partners from Silver status complete a training once a year – whether a Qualification Training, Refresh Training or one of our focus workshops. To recertify the partner status, at least one employee of the LOXONE Partner must complete a training.
