This modern Vancouver residence required a sophisticated HVAC control strategy capable of seamlessly coordinating multiple hydronic heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
An air-to-water heat pump serves as the primary energy source, with an electric backup boiler supporting the home’s in-floor radiant heating, hydronic floor warming, and chilled-water cooling through JAGA hydronic fan coils. The challenge was to bring these different systems together under one intelligent control platform while maximizing comfort, efficiency, and equipment performance.
A key requirement was also to provide precise ventilation control without relying on fixed fan speeds, allowing airflow to respond dynamically to the actual heating and cooling demands of the home.

LOXONE was configured as the central HVAC control platform, intelligently coordinating the air-to-water heat pump, backup boiler, radiant heating, hydronic floor warming, chilled-water cooling, and ventilation throughout the residence.
The JAGA hydronic fan coils are controlled using 0–10V analog outputs, providing complete variable-speed control of the fans. Rather than operating at predetermined fixed speeds, fan operation is fully autonomous and continuously adjusts according to system demand and the temperature differential between the room and its target setpoint.
When a larger temperature differential exists, the system automatically increases fan speed to deliver the required heating or cooling capacity. As the room approaches its target temperature, LOXONE progressively ramps the fan speed down, providing quieter and more efficient operation while avoiding unnecessary overshoot.
Once the heating or cooling demand has been satisfied, the fans revert to a controlled low-speed operation to maintain the home’s minimum ventilation requirements. This allows the same system to intelligently balance comfort, heating, cooling, ventilation, and energy efficiency without requiring constant homeowner adjustment.
