Challenge

Personal energy supply and electromobility go hand in hand: The Reber nursing service/day care presents an inspiring practical example. Stefan and Melanie Reber recently purchased three brand new electric vehicles for outpatient care. What sets this fleet apart is its innovative way of providing power. These vehicles are used intensively every day and, especially on sunny days, are charged exclusively with self-generated electricity from the in-house photovoltaic system.

Solution

In order to realize this concept, a comprehensive energy management system was implemented. This system not only controls the PV system and storage, but also the heat pump, six intelligent charging stations (which are in efficient communication with the vehicles) and even the shading to optimize energy efficiency in cooling and heating.

Not only the technical implementation alone, but also well-thought-out organizational planning of the daily trips played a crucial role. Care was taken to ensure that the nursing service employees start their day trips in the morning and return at midday at the optimal "sun position" time. This approach enables electric vehicles to be charged exclusively with excess solar power. Additional safety measures have been programmed to ensure that each car is always fully charged in the morning and does not fall below a certain (adjustable) charge level during operating hours. Stefan and Melanie Reber, the owners of day care and outpatient nursing, are completely enthusiastic about this concept. They see themselves as trailblazers and have a desire to share their valuable experiences with other companies to encourage them to follow their example. The successful implementation of this project impressively illustrates that electromobility does not entail any restrictions on comfort. On the contrary: it is more cost-efficient, more environmentally friendly and even increases the driving pleasure of employees.

In addition, the following components were integrated at the same time:

- Fire alarm (via DI contacts)

- Electricity meter (via DI contacts; frequency input)

- 2 x Doorbird door stations

- Ventilation (via Modbus extension)

- Robotic lawnmower

- 2 x oven, 1x hob (via HomeConnect)

- 2x Sonos speakers

- Lighting (existing buttons on 24VDC on DI extension; lamps via relay extension

- Shading (existing buttons on 24VDC on DI extension; blind motors via relay extension

- Heat pump (via Modbus-TCP)

The wide range of interfaces used in the existing components is the prerequisite for reading and writing data. In addition, the intuitive APP guarantees that every day care employee can handle the operation.
