Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo: 100% lights controlled by Loxone
The Ullevaal Stadium is Norway’s national stadium and home to the Norwegian National Football Team. As the stadium was close to its 100th birthday, the Norwegian Football Association decided it was time to renovate. A significant part of this renovation was building automation, and of course, they chose to go with Loxone.

Support for all lights
The stadium naturally has many different types of lights – however, they are now all controlled with Loxone. The openness of a Loxone system means that integrating various kinds of lights, such as DALI, is straightforward. Furthermore, as this is the national stadium, a lot of TV production is done at the Ullevaal Stadium, and for this, they need specific lighting conditions.
“With Loxone, we have a better control of energy usage and a functional lighting system that covers the various needs of the facility”, states Øyvind Sakshaug, Technical Director of the stadium. “When doing TV productions, we set the different environments along with the camera team. It’s great to save this as a preset for the next time and quickly revert to the previous settings. That’s invaluable.”

The first thing on my mind: professionalism!
We do operate in a pretty closed environment regarding impulses for new solutions – especially technical solutions. So we relied on the input from several parties that suggested Autobolig AS and Loxone. All the way through the planning, installation, and afterwards, we have been treated with outstanding professionalism. For the Loxone system, we see now a wide range of usability. We are already considering expanding the system towards additional functionality like the stadium floodlights, under-grass-heating, etc.

Henning Herfjord and Erik Braatnes are long-standing partners of Loxone and one of Norway’s leading players in smart homes and residential & commercial building automation. They regularly participate in Loxone Training and keep in close contact with Loxonauts from the technical, sales and marketing departments. As a systems integrator, they work closely with local electricians to achieve stunning projects – like the Ullevaal Stadium.
We were made aware of the project from one of our installation partners. It was clear that the project needed building automation, especially lighting control and the ability to control the system from smartphones in an easy manner. We were happy to do the planning, commissioning, and programming, including DALI and electrical work in the switchboards.
The highlight: The player tunnel
My favourite feature on the Ullevaal project is the epic pre-programmed lightning sequence in the player tunnel accessing the field! RGBW LED Strip and Loxone RGBW-dimmers can be seen here at their best and make a unique impression. But what is also great is the extreme flexibility within the lighting control. It is one of the most valuable features due to the increased level of TV production these days.
<p>My favourite part of the project lies in the future. With this renovation, the stadium now has a great technical platform in Loxone to expand in the future and can be adapted for new functionality as the needs are changing over the years to come. We know this from experience as we are using it in a wide range of applications – everything from small apartments to football stadiums and large office buildings. Time and time again, Loxone proves reliable and flexible in every case, representing long-lasting and functional solutions for projects. We’re looking forward to the next requests from Mr. Øyvind Sakshaug for the Ullevaal Stadion.</p>
