Challenge
Speedy Hire required a modern, efficient and easy-to-manage facility to support its operations at the Sellafield nuclear site. As a high-security and highly regulated environment, the building needed to provide dependable control over key services while ensuring a comfortable and productive workplace for staff.
The client wanted to avoid the complexity of multiple independent systems controlling lighting, heating, access and building services. Instead, the objective was to create a unified commercial automation solution capable of improving operational efficiency, reducing energy waste and simplifying day-to-day building management.
Given the nature of the site, reliability, ease of use and visibility of building performance were all critical considerations throughout the project.

Solution
Using LOXONE, lighting control was designed to respond automatically to occupancy and scheduling requirements, ensuring areas were illuminated only when needed. Heating and environmental controls were integrated to provide comfortable working conditions while reducing unnecessary energy consumption during periods of low occupancy.
Access control functions were incorporated to support operational security requirements, while centralised monitoring provided facilities personnel with clear visibility of building performance and system status. The integrated LOXONE control platform enables efficient management of multiple building systems through a single interface, simplifying both operation and maintenance.
Energy management features allow the facility team to monitor usage patterns and identify opportunities for ongoing efficiency improvements, supporting the client's wider sustainability objectives.

Working with LOXONE and Zmart Hohm allowed us to implement smarter, more efficient control across our brand-new Sellafield site, helping us take meaningful steps toward energy optimisation and carbon reduction.
