Challenge

The plan was to create a home that would not only be beautifully equipped with modern technologies, but would also function intelligently, efficiently, and largely independently.

From the beginning, we wanted to avoid having each device in the house managed separately. Photovoltaics, the battery, wallbox charging station for electric vehicles, shading, heat recovery and ventilation, irrigation, water, pumps, audio, and appliances were all meant to work together within one connected system. Not through ten different apps, but through a unified logic capable of evaluating what is currently happening in the home and responding accordingly.

The key priority was the efficient use of self-generated energy. When the photovoltaic system produces electricity, the home should be able to use it as effectively as possible — first for its own consumption, then for charging the battery, the car, powering appliances, or other technologies. We did not want a system that merely displays graphs, but a home that actually acts based on this data.

Comfort was equally important. Shading was intended to respond to sunlight and interior overheating, heat recovery ventilation to air quality in individual rooms, irrigation to the current need for water, and pumps to water level conditions. The goal was for the home not to require constant manual intervention, but to handle most everyday situations automatically.

Solution

The foundation of the solution is LOXONE, which connects individual technologies into one system. In the house, it controls lighting, shading, audio, heat recovery ventilation, irrigation, utility water, pumps, water levels, and the EV charger, while also working with the photovoltaic system and the Victron battery system.

The energy part is designed so that the house can work with current production and consumption. LOXONE monitors available surplus energy from the photovoltaic system, the battery status, and the house’s energy consumption. Based on this, it can decide when it makes sense to switch individual appliances and technologies on or limit their operation.

Electric vehicle charging is controlled through the EV charger. The car does not have to charge regardless of the situation in the house, but according to how much energy is currently available. When there is enough power from the photovoltaic system, charging can increase. When the output drops or the house has another priority, charging can be adjusted automatically.

Selected appliances, such as the washing machine and dishwasher, are also connected to the system. They can be part of the surplus photovoltaic energy logic and start when self-generated energy is available. Ordinary household appliances thus become part of the home’s energy management.

Shading is configured to protect the house from overheating while also helping to use sunlight when it is beneficial. In summer, the system automatically provides shading based on solar radiation and temperature; in colder periods, it can instead let sunlight into the interior.

Heat recovery ventilation is controlled according to air quality. In addition to the unit itself, dampers are installed for individual rooms. The system can therefore direct air where it is currently needed — for example, to the bedroom during the night, to the living area during the day, or to the bathroom when humidity increases. Ventilation therefore does not run unnecessarily in the same way everywhere, but according to actual demand.

Irrigation and utility water are also part of the solution. LOXONE monitors water levels, controls pumps, and helps protect the technology from incorrect operation. Irrigation can be controlled according to need, water availability, and predefined rules, rather than just a simple timer.

The result is a house that brings all important technologies under one roof. The user has an overview in a single app, while many things no longer need to be managed at all. The house responds on its own to energy, weather, air quality, water, and everyday use.

Our goal was to create a home that would not only be controllable through an app, but would also be able to respond independently and intelligently to what is currently happening inside it.

We wanted the photovoltaic system, battery, car charging, shading, ventilation, water, irrigation, and appliances to work together. Not as separate technologies, but as one connected system.

We see the greatest benefit in the fact that the home can use its own energy more efficiently, automatically adapt to the weather and air quality, and reduce the number of things a person would otherwise have to control manually every day.
