Challenge

The client, an elderly apartment owner, needed a simple and reliable way to remotely activate the storage heater in their holiday property the day before arrival. Because storage heaters require several hours to charge - typically overnight - it was essential that the system could be triggered in advance to ensure the apartment was warm and comfortable upon arrival. The solution needed to be user-friendly and accessible, even for someone with limited technical experience, while also ensuring energy was only used when necessary.

Solution

Using the Loxone Miniserver Go, a Nano I/O Relay, and a Room Comfort Sensor Air, we implemented a straightforward yet effective solution tailored to the client’s needs. The Loxone App was streamlined to provide a single, intuitive interface - just an on/off switch for the storage heater and a live temperature reading from inside the apartment. This allowed the client to check the current conditions remotely and decide whether heating was necessary, helping to avoid unnecessary energy use while ensuring the space was warm and welcoming on arrival.

This is a perfect example of selling solutions - not systems. The client came to us with a problem. They’d already spoken to Dimplex, who tried to sell them a complicated web-enabled master heater controller at an extortionate price. After a quick visit to understand what they actually needed, we offered a simple on/off control via an easy-to-use app - complete with full installation, setup, and training. No tech jargon, no talk of Loxone, wireless relays, or gateways - just a solution that works.
