Challenge

Nowadays, environmental awareness and the search for energy saving solutions are becoming increasingly important, especially in the hotel industry. One of the key steps in achieving these goals is to optimise heating and hot water systems. Following this path, one of our investors took steps to increase the energy efficiency of his hotel.



In a hotel building with four heat pumps and buffer tanks that supply central heating and domestic hot water, there was a need to improve the operation of this system. Originally, the heat pumps operated autonomously, each based on four separate weather sensors, without being connected to each other in any way. However, in response to the client's need to increase the efficiency of the heating system and to precisely control the temperature in key rooms, the technical team took on the challenge of implementing cascade control for the heat pumps.



Cascade control is an advanced system that allows multiple heat pumps to be synchronised, leading to optimised energy consumption. This process allows individual pumps to be coordinated so that they operate according to the current heat demand in different parts of the building. The integration of weather sensors and the control system allows the pumps to precisely adjust their operation to the external conditions, resulting in optimised energy consumption.



A key element in the implementation of this solution was to ensure complete control of the temperature in the most important areas of the hotel. Thanks to this installation, it became possible to configure the relevant parameters for individual rooms and maintain the optimum temperature in selected areas of the facility.



The implementation of cascade control for the heat pumps not only resulted in increased energy efficiency for the entire heating system, but also improved comfort for guests by precisely controlling the temperature in crucial areas of the hotel.



The findings of this project clearly indicate that investment in advanced control technologies can make a significant difference not only in reducing energy consumption, but also in improving guest comfort and experience. At the same time, this is a step towards a greener and more economically sustainable hotel business.



Our company is constantly striving to find innovative solutions to improve energy efficiency and comfort in different types of facilities. The introduction of cascade control for the heat pumps in this project is one example of our efforts to create more sustainable and energy-efficient heating systems.

Solution

A comprehensive control management system has been developed to optimally manage the four heat pumps. These units are activated according to three main factors: the outside temperature, the buffer temperature and the current heat demand of the building. The integration of these parameters allows the pumps to be precisely activated in response to varying external and internal conditions, resulting in optimised energy consumption.



In order to accurately monitor and control the status of the heating system, Temperature Sensors were used and placed on pipelines throughout the boiler room that allow the temperature at various points in the heating system to be continuously monitored. This, in turn, enables the rapid response and adjustment of the heat pumps' operation to current conditions, minimising potential irregularities.



Problems with hot water shortages at times of maximum consumption have been resolved by activating the heaters in the domestic hot water buffers. These additional heat sources automatically switch on at times of peak demand, ensuring that hot water is always available, even at the most demanding times.



In order to manage the thermal conditions in individual rooms even more precisely, radio climate sensors were installed in selected control rooms. These advanced devices collect data on temperature and other environmental parameters, allowing the heating system to be dynamically adapted to current needs. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to maintain optimal thermal conditions in zones and to adapt to changing weather conditions and user preferences.



The entire solution is based on advanced automation and intelligent building management, which not only eliminates heat shortage problems, but also minimises energy consumption, contributing to the building's energy savings and efficiency.



As a result of implementing these innovative solutions, the building operates much more efficiently and effectively. Improved comfort for users goes hand in hand with reduced energy consumption, representing a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient operation of the building.
