Challenge
The owner of the car wash asks us for a solution that would allow the efficient use of the overflow from the photovoltaic power plant to heat water in the storage tanks. The heated water is then used to run the car wash, saving energy and increasing the overall efficiency of the system. Our goal is to ensure fully automated operation, taking into account the current energy availability and the needs of the individual technologies in the facility.
Solution
Using the Loxone Miniserver, Relay Extension and solid state relays (SSR) we control the flow of electricity to the storage tanks for car wash, building heating and domestic water heating. Data from the inverters and billing meter is read into the Loxone system via Modbus RTU and TCP/IP. This allows the Miniserver to evaluate the current situation in real time and decide where to route the overflows. We measure the temperatures in the storage tanks using Loxone temperature sensors located directly in the tanks.
We chose Loxone for this installation primarily because of its flexibility, reliability and ability to integrate different technologies into one centralized solution. Loxone enables easy control and automation of energy flows in real time, which is key to the efficient use of surplus photovoltaics.
