We want to maximize our self-generated solar power and not feed it back into the grid. During the day, we sometimes generate more than we use; that's when we want to charge the salt battery. During peak hours, we want to discharge the battery and thus save on our energy bill (tariff arbitrage). We also want to reduce peak consumption to minimize kW peaks and their associated costs. If the battery is full and the PV system still produces more than we use, the generation must be curtailed to stay within grid limits.

S — Screening

We performed baseline measurements on consumption, PV generation, and grid exchange, and mapped the periods of surplus/shortage and peaks.



L — Local Insight

We measure energy flows in real time with energy meters, so that PV, battery, building consumption, and grid position are continuously visible in dashboards.



I — Integration (Loxone)

We connect the Loxone Miniserver via Modbus to the PV inverters and to the salt battery for charging/discharging control. Control logic:

Arbitrage: charging at low rates/surplus, discharging at high rates.

Peak Reduction: the battery provides support for approaching kW peaks.



Curtailment: if the battery is full and there is still a surplus, we send back PV generation.



M — Monitoring

Live KPIs: PV self-consumption and grid feed-in (expected 0), peak kW. Alerts for exceeding limits or communication loss.



M — Management

We manage setpoints, rate windows, and priorities; seasonal adjustments are made where necessary.



R — Review

Periodic evaluation of KPIs and fine-tuning of thresholds/rules for increased savings.
