Challenge
The aim was to make several storage facilities available to all participants in an energy community. A particular challenge was that not only battery storage facilities had to be controlled intelligently, but also a hydrogen storage facility for seasonal energy storage, which is unique in Austria, had to be integrated.
Not only is it difficult to obtain write registers from storage manufacturers, but also to coordinate the participants and their energy data (generation, consumption, feed-in) in real time and to control and use them intelligently. There are various requirements such as energy self-sufficiency, spot price optimization, optimal storage utilization. It is almost impossible to get all of this under one roof.

Solution
A control algorithm with various conditions was set up using a wide range of components in the config, from logic to spot price, energy manager, load manager and much more. This was used to generate target values for battery storage or controllable consumers and producers.
Through intensive research, some battery storage units could ultimately be controlled directly by Loxone. Other/slower control algorithms had to be chosen for the hydrogen storage unit, as it cannot or should not react as agilely.
A trust was used to link the individual participants in the energy community and their energy data. However, we hope that we can rely on Exosphere in the future, as trust communication can quickly become overloaded.
Especially with a project like this, you never reach the end. There are always new market influences that also require the control algorithms to be adapted.
Ultimately, a great project that is constantly being developed further.

Real-time data and digitalization are increasingly required in the energy community. Since Loxone is a system that is already present in many homes, it was the ideal system for us to build this project using Loxone components and software.
