Challenge

As part of the modernization of an aparthotel, a comprehensive Loxone Smart Building solution was implemented. The goal was to ensure maximum comfort, energy efficiency, and security for guests and operators – while simultaneously ensuring intuitive operation and minimal maintenance.

Challenge:
The requirements included comprehensive automation and control of the following systems:
• Lighting (indoor & outdoor)
• Blinds
• Alarm system and access control
• Audio system
• Cistern monitoring and irrigation control
• Electric vehicle charging station

The challenge was to create a system that is both intuitive to use for guests without prior technical knowledge and offers the operator full control and flexibility – including redundancies for security-relevant functions.

Solution

Classic buttons were installed for operation, allowing manual control of lighting and blinds – particularly important for guests who have no experience with smart home technology. In the rooms, each light is deliberately not switched on individually, but rather via predefined lighting scenes – which greatly simplifies operation and increases user-friendliness.

The outdoor lighting is automatically activated depending on the ambient brightness and deactivated at night – with the option for guests to manually turn the lights on their own balconies on or off as needed.

A power supply with an extended battery pack ensures the power supply to critical system components – such as alarm functions, security-relevant monitoring of barrier-free zones, etc.
The e-charging station for electric vehicles has been seamlessly integrated into the Loxone system. Guests can conveniently charge their electric cars directly at the hotel – energy-efficiently controlled via the existing photovoltaic system and monitored via an app. The operator has transparent visibility and control of the charging process at all times, e.g., for load balancing or preferential use of self-generated electricity. The Loxone app gives the operator a constant overview of the entire system – with minimal intervention during ongoing operations.
The Audioserver provides sound for the reception, buffet, breakfast room, terrace, and the hotel entrance area. The harmonious soundscape noticeably contributes to the atmosphere and the well-being of the guests.

The irrigation system is also controlled via the system – conveniently via the app. In addition, the water level in the cistern is continuously monitored to ensure efficient use of resources.

We were skeptical when we switched from traditional switching to automation. We chose Loxone – the decisive factors were its ease of use, clear visualization, and the ability to adjust settings ourselves – without the need for a technician. Switching to automation with Loxone was one of our best decisions, both technically and practically.
