SPAR supermarkets with Loxone

With more than 1500 shops, the SPAR Austria Group is one of the largest supermarket retail chains in Austria – a very energy-intensive business due to the high demands placed on food storage. This is one of the reasons why energy management has been an important topic for the company for over 15 years. As a pioneer of innovation, SPAR will rely entirely on Loxone to automate its stores in the future.

Having already automated a test store in Upper Austria, we have now installed the Loxone system for holistic building automation in a EUROSPAR in Tyrol. The installation was done by placon Ingenieure GmbH. From 2024, all new and relaunched SPAR stores, as well as the main headquarters in Salzburg, will be equipped with Loxone.

For SPAR, it’s particularly important to combine the various singular solutions of the previous installation into an organised and holistic building management system – both technically and visually in one app. Loxone was able to achieve this, and the building’s energy management was optimised to its full capacity through automation. 

At the same time, Loxone made work easier for the store staff and created an even more pleasant customer experience. 

The following functions have been implemented with Loxone:

  • Monitoring and recording of all energy consumption 
  • Zoned heating with intelligent room temperature control based on a 50-hour preview 
  • Control of the heating system 
  • Control of the ventilation and air conditioning systems 
  • Integration of the PV systems 
  • Lighting control via DALI 
  • Alarm notifications 
  • Automated glare & sun protection with smart blinds 
  • Door monitoring including activation of the automatic sliding doors 
  • Emergency call system in the customer restroom 
  • Room humidity monitoring 
  • Trust user administration across all locations
