Decided to go down the self-install route with Loxone and was amazed by the fantastic support offered by the Loxone team in sorting out the issues I encountered along the way.
My goal was to make a system that functioned like a normal house (ie wasn’t a chore to use), but with the extra functions that a fully automated home could offer.
I could not be happier with the purchase.Blake Sabin
Both the team at the Loxone offices and my approved Loxone installer have been incredibly supportive while fitting some Loxone technology for my elderly mother to assist her to live independently in her own home and to give me, “the over protective” daughter, peace of mind.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them.Jane Cox
When we bought a new house I decided to invest in a proper system, which could be maintained and serviced by an expert.
My wife absolutely loves the system. A clean iPhone interface. Automatic operation. Beautiful fade in and fade out on the lights. Even the gas fireplace is controlled by Loxone.
I was not too ambitious. We only automated those things I felt were immediately useful. It’s really added value to our home. Everyone who sees it is impressed. I really recommend Loxone and our installer.

Smart home FAQs
What can I automate with Loxone?
Loxone is a 360° smart home solution – that means that you can integrate pretty much every aspect of your home into the system – your lighting, heating, security, audio, blinds, intercom… even your pool (if you’re lucky enough to have one!). You can click here to find out more about what can be automated with the Loxone Miniserver.
What’s the difference between control and automation?
In short, automation takes the work off your hands. You can control your home from an app, for example, but this involves manual effort on your part. We believe that life’s far too busy to spend constantly opening apps to send commands to your home. Automation enables things to happen automatically. Want the porch lights to come on automatically at sunset? Automation. Want the heating to start earlier or later depending on the weather forecast? That’s also automation. Of course, there’s always times when you want a little more control, which is exactly what the Loxone Smart Home app is for.
Do I have to use the Loxone app?
We’ve designed a beautiful app for the Loxone Smart Home for when you want a little more control. Use it for setting the desired temperature in the bathroom, selecting your favourite playlist to accompany your inner-chef efforts in the kitchen, or simply to see an overview of your home’s energy consumption, for example.
The nice thing about this functionality is that your home doesn’t need your interaction. It runs perfectly without the app, so it’s simple and fuss-free for all the family.
Is Loxone complicated to use?
Here at Loxone, we believe that despite the intelligence flowing through every vein of your home, you shouldn’t need a complicated touch panel to keep control. Who wants to constantly turn lights on and off with their phone? A Loxone Smart Home can bring your lights on and switch them off again automatically, but if you prefer to switch the lights on from a switch on the wall, you can do so. We recommend that you have a standard switch layout for every switch in the entire house; use the central touch point for lighting and the four corners for blind and music control (if you have these). Easy to remember, even for guests, and ensures you’re never left wondering ‘which button does what?’.
Who can install my Loxone system?
We have a nationwide network of trained Loxone Partners who can help you to plan your smart home. Loxone Silver, Gold & Platinum Partners have undergone training to ensure they know how to install your new smart home system perfectly. Where do Loxone products come from?
The Austrian Mühlviertel is famous for its picturesque rolling hills and green forests. Away from the big city bustle, an environment of peace and tranquillity lends itself to concentration and the drive to create something special. This is the starting point for the creation of all of our products.
It was here that the Loxone Miniserver was designed and built, and even today, it proudly wears the label: “Designed and manufactured in Austria”. We believe that when it comes to your home, cutting corners is not an option. We design all of our products and software in-house in Austria to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. After all, we use Loxone in our own homes, so anything less than perfect does not make the cut.
Is Loxone secure?
Your system is local, i.e. in your house, so if your home network is secure, then your home is secure. The Miniserver uses 128-bit asynchronous hash, which is in line with latest security standards and we conduct independent security audits to ensure the integrity of our software. Security sensitive items, such as alarms and access controls can be protected with a secondary password, in case someone does get access to your unlocked device. Ultimately security does come down to the strength of your password.
What happens if there’s a power cut?
If you are concerned about power cuts, speak to your Loxone Partner about having a battery back-up added to your system – this can keep things running until the main power is restored.
What happens if something goes wrong?
The system is designed to fail “gracefully” i.e. if the internet goes down everything continues to work, apart from being able to connect to the house remotely. If the WIFI goes down all switches, lights, etc will continue to work, only control from the app ceases. IF someone drills through a cable to a light switch or light circuit, then that circuit will fail, but the rest of your system will continue to work. If the Miniserver stops then the house stops, it is like the engine in your car. It’s worthwhile chatting to your Loxone Partner about this, as many offer aftercare packages for updates, expansion and troubleshooting.
What happens if Loxone goes bust?
If you’re going to be investing in a smart home system, it’s only natural to ensure you’re getting a reliable system that will last the lifetime of your home. The first thing to note is that your house is its own independent entity. i.e. if Loxone went bust tomorrow, your house would continue to run. There would be no updates and improvements, but things will keep running. Loxone is a privately funded company that has been profitable since 2010. We have expanded our business into over 100 countries and with over 50,000 smart homes we have built up a strong financial foundation which makes it extremely unlikely that Loxone will simply go bust.
