Smart dental practice

A dental practice presents conflicting demands during operation: A calm and pleasant atmosphere is required in the waiting area and treatment rooms, while at the same time processes such as patient call-up and communication between rooms must function smoothly. Outside of office hours, the practice, with its sensitive technology, must be reliably secured. Adding to the complexity is the fact that autonomous cleaning robots roam the premises outside of opening hours – a conventional alarm system would inevitably trigger false alarms. Therefore, the goal was not a patchwork of isolated solutions, but a comprehensive system that integrated audio, security, access control, and internal communication.

The requirements were implemented using Loxone and integrated into a cohesive system. LOXONE Audio provides sound in the waiting room and all treatment rooms, allowing for separate control of the program and volume for each room. Security is provided by an integrated alarm system with window contacts at all relevant openings. The autonomous mopping robots are integrated into this alarm system: during their cleaning cycle, presence detection in the affected area is automatically disabled, preventing the robot's movement from triggering an alarm – thus ensuring the practice remains secure. Patients are called audibly via the LOXONE speakers; simultaneously, directions to the respective treatment room are displayed on the television in the waiting room. Access for all employees is controlled via the Loxone access control system. Internal practice communication is handled via push notifications to mobile phones, tablets, and PCs, enabling the team to communicate across all rooms without additional devices. For emergency management, each patient who is alone in the treatment room receives a Button Air and can use it to immediately call for help at the touch of a button – without fixed wiring and flexibly usable in any location.
