Challenge

The goal was to renovate this two-family house and to install an intelligent house and building control system. The aim of the refurbishment was to significantly reduce energy costs and at the same time increase comfort for the residents. In the building, heating and cooling control, PV system, lighting, shading, pond pumps and garden irrigation are managed via a total of three mini servers.

Solution

Before the refurbishment, the residents had expenses for 28,000 kWh of gas and had to draw an additional 14,000 kWh of electricity per year from the grid. The gas heating used was removed and replaced by a brine heat pump. In cooperation with the 16 kWp PV system and the energy management from Loxone, a considerable part of the previous heating costs is intelligently saved. In addition, a ventilation system including heat recovery was installed, which is controlled individually for each room. The costs for gas are now completely eliminated and thanks to the new PV system, only less than 6,000 kWh have to be purchased from the electricity provider. In addition, the residents are happy about €450 per year as feed-in tariffs. This corresponds to annual savings of more than €6,000!



In addition to the PV system, the energy management is primarily responsible for the enormous savings. The three mini servers and the Modbus extension enable the visualization, analysis and control of energy gains and consumption. For example, the power consumption of the wall box or the heating can be controlled fully automatically.



In addition, the increased quality of life of the residents is enormous. Thanks to the automated pond pump and irrigation, the Miniserver now also takes care of most of the gardening work. In addition, thanks to the automation, residents no longer have to worry about lighting and shading. If you do want to intervene, you can do so easily at any time using the attached touch screen or the free Loxone app.
