Renovation of an apartment building in Rüschlikon

As part of the renovation, three apartment buildings were converted from gas heating to a sustainable geothermal probe/heat pump solution while remaining operational. A key technical and regulatory requirement was ensuring the regeneration of the geothermal probe field. This necessitated a controlled cooling system via the underfloor heating in all 21 apartments to return the extracted heat to the ground. The challenge lay in ensuring this complex thermal management through comprehensive room temperature control and seamlessly integrating LOXONE via BACnet with the overarching building management system and the building-wide communication network.

WEST Solution AG implemented the building automation for the heating systems and individual room temperature control in all 21 apartments. Since this was a renovation project, the robust LOXONE Air technology was used for the room control units. A key advantage: the devices could be powered via the two existing wires of the old installation, completely eliminating the need for complex rewiring. The project comprises a total of 3 LOXONE Miniservers, 138 LOXONE Air devices, and 190 Tree devices. In addition to heating comfort, LOXONE also controls the active cooling operation for geothermal probe regeneration, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for the sustainable management of the probe field.
