Rainwater Management

Challenge

At the Mettelacher Residence, the rainwater from three buildings needed to be sustainably utilized while simultaneously ensuring reliable operation. Two hydraulically connected tanks in the underground parking garage required reliable monitoring and controlled discharge in case of excess water – even during heavy rain and potential power outages. Additionally, the safe and precise control of the technically sophisticated AUMA damper actuators presented significant challenges: direct end-stroke/end-position detection, torque cut-offs, and clear feedback of the damper positions were necessary to prevent malfunctions, blockages, and overloads, and to guarantee defined, safe system states at all times.

Solution

WEST Solution AG implemented the automation of its rainwater management system using LOXONE. Two interconnected tank systems are monitored via a level sensor and automatically filled and emptied via six AUMA valves. LOXONE handles both the control and monitoring systems, including status indicators, automations, and alarms. For maximum safety, the entire system is equipped with a UPS (uninterruptible power supply), ensuring a defined and safe system state even during a power outage.

We chose LOXONE because it allows for the efficient implementation of control and monitoring systems on a single platform. Its flexible programming, clear visualization, and high reliability enable safe, automated operation.
