Challenge
A medium-sized, innovative, family-owned printing company in its own business building and with a 144kWp PV system on the roof. How can the energy generated be best used and what is our consumption at night?
Solution
By integrating the energy consumption meter and the three large PV inverters via Modbus TCP connection, the total meter could be virtualized using formulas and calculations. It was not possible to install a physical energy meter because this measurement would be in the unmetered area of the main distribution. In addition to the large consumers in the printing shop, two electric vehicles are now charged with clean solar energy and the charge is controlled dynamically depending on the printing shop's energy consumption. Since last autumn, in addition to the electrical use in the buffer storage, the flow temperature has also been regulated so that the building can also be used as a storage facility. Using the visualization, the owners now check every evening whether all machines are switched off. In fact, one or two unnecessary consumers were discovered and switched off before the end of the day. The average standby consumption in this medium-sized family business is a considerable value of less than 2kW. Next up are the hot water boilers. Since Loxone was installed as the energy management basis, this consumption has also been visible at night. These consumers are now to be moved to the day. Furthermore, the floors are provided with individual room control one after the other. Nothing could be easier thanks to the simple system and its flexible software.
Thanks to the innovative software and open interfaces, almost any integration into other systems is possible, thus enabling comprehensive energy management.
