Energy monitoring mountain cable cars

Challenge

At the Krings cable car in Obertauern, the challenge was to efficiently monitor five low-voltage rooms that are responsible for controlling and protecting the entire snowmaking system. A key requirement was monitoring the circuit breakers, which can be read via Modbus TCP and RTU. The goal was not only to keep an eye on energy consumption, but also to be able to react immediately to critical situations such as circuit breakers tripping. To do this, a flexible and reliable solution had to be found that would increase the safety and efficiency of the systems.

Solution

The project was implemented using the Loxone system, with each of the five low-voltage rooms being monitored in a client gateway system. All Miniservers were integrated into the same network and all control and visualization was implemented in a central app. This solution enables operating personnel to monitor all relevant parameters in real time and to intervene immediately in the event of problems, such as a snowmaking line failing. This can prevent lines from being damaged by frost, for example.

Loxone was chosen for this project because the system is flexible, scalable and ideally suited for complex automation solutions in the field of building and system control. It offers seamless integration of Modbus TCP/RTU devices and allows user-friendly visualization via the Loxone App. This combination made it possible to implement an efficient and cost-effective solution for the Krings cable cars, resulting in a significant increase in operational safety and energy efficiency.

This approach makes a significant contribution to reducing operating costs while ensuring the reliability of the snowmaking systems.
