24/7 shops for country butchers

Challenge

Shopping around the clock with automated control and intelligent access solutions.

- Access day and night

- Age verification for alcohol sales

- Lights should be dimmed at night, but not off to suggest that the store is open

- Main entrance door should only be open for a short time

- Refrigeration devices should only be open for a short time

- The waste heat from the refrigeration devices should not melt the chocolate next door

- Shading should be controlled so that customers are not exposed to yellowing and heat build-up is avoided

- Employees and cleaning staff should have separate access with logging

- Emergency exit should only be used in an emergency

- Video surveillance should detect when the door opens and a payment transaction takes place

- Background music

- Automatic detection of undesirable behavior

- Monitoring of the cold chain on refrigeration devices

- Wall boxes for employees, customers and residents

- Energy management with PV system

Solution

We were able to implement lighting, shading and climate control easily using the Loxone Board resources. We used dimmer extensions and relays for the lighting. The advertising lighting in front of the store, which was subsequently implemented, was implemented minimally invasively using Nano IO. It is controlled via motion detectors depending on the brightness inside. From dusk to sunrise there is basic lighting that suggests that the store is open. Climate control is carried out via actuators on the underfloor heating distributors and via Modbus TCP on the split air conditioning units. The hysteresis is set to 18 to 22 degrees. We controlled the shading centrally via a relay extension. The weather station uses the outside brightness as an indicator of sunshine, so that we only shade when the radiation is actually blinding.

For access control, we use NFC Code Touch for employees at the main and side entrances and storage rooms. This also allows us to verify that employees were there to replenish goods and check that everything was in order. For customers, we have installed a document reader with age verification. This ensures that only people aged 18 and over have access.

Doors and freezers are monitored by magnetic contact. If the doors are open for too long, we first inform customers via an announcement over the loudspeakers that the doors should be closed. The second stage is to notify employees who are looking after the store. When the emergency exit door is opened, a loud signal with an announcement immediately sounds throughout the store, and storage rooms and employee rooms are also secured.

When entering and leaving via the entrance door, as well as when there is movement directly in front of the cash register, an event is reported to the video surveillance. This makes it easier to evaluate the video data.

If the video surveillance detects that the cash register area or corridors are occupied for a longer period of time, Loxone is informed and we encourage the people present to leave the area with announcements and unpleasantly fluctuating music volume.

All cooling devices are monitored using 1-wire sensors. The temperatures are visually processed using Grafana and also transmitted to a certified service provider who guarantees compliance with the cold chain in the food sector. In addition to the automated announcements, the loudspeakers primarily have the function of creating a comfortable shopping atmosphere through background music.

The Loxone smoke detectors are networked so that an alarm in the store can be responded to by opening all doors and turning on maximum lighting. At the same time, the responsible employees are informed.

The PV inverters report to Loxone via Modbus TCP when and how much surplus is available. This means that air conditioning units and wall boxes can be operated using PV surplus.

Last but not least, there is an intercom that customers can use to contact service staff if they have any questions, if there are problems with the payment process or access.

All branches are linked via Loxone Trust. This means that employees can keep an eye on the branch assigned to them with just one app and can make settings remotely if necessary.

Only with Loxone can we respond to customer requests in such detail. The combination of freely programmable logic and predefined modules is unique and gives us and our customers a clear competitive advantage, time savings and efficiency.
