Wendover

4th December 2017 in Case Studies
I recently spent a day with Dan from Wiise at a project they had just finished. It was this home in Wendover that they’d given the Loxone treatment. It is a beautiful example of how the integration of a holistic home automation solution has added a layer of design, energy-efficiency, comfort, security and more to a beautifully designed home.

On completion, this home was put on the market. Whoever purchases this open plan, modern and efficient home will benefit from living with intelligently automated heating, lighting, security, access control, multiroom audio, roof windows and blinds.

Dan Milne heads up Wiise and here’s what he had to say about this Loxone Smart Home…

Loxone Partner: Wiise

Smart Lighting

This home features both functional and accent smart lighting throughout. There’s colour changing lighting in the skirting around the entire downstairs open plan recreational areas. The kitchen is brought to life with colour lighting cleverly installed beneath the lip of the countertops and under the breakfast bar island – offering a variety of different lighting moods to suit different times of day and occasions.

The lighting is not merely an aesthetic element. It is intelligently automated to improve the way the occupants move about the home on a daily basis. For example, should someone get up in the middle of the night or make their way down for breakfast at 06:00, dimmed lighting will turn on to illuminate their path but not dazzle them with bright light. On the other hand, at the time dinner is usually cooked, the lighting in the kitchen will reflect this – with a concentrated bright light on the preparation surfaces complemented by inviting colour accents glowing from beneath the worktop.

Smart Security
& Access Control

This modern home includes the Loxone Intercom for smart access control. It means the homeowner will always know who is at the door – whether or not anyone is home. The Loxone Intercom allows you to see, speak to, and potentially let someone into your home all from almost anywhere in the world using the Loxone Smart Home App. This Intercom includes an iButton reader which means each member of the family can disarm the alarm and unlock the door with ease.

Smart Heating

The heating in this home is intelligently automated and controlled via Loxone. There are seven zones of underfloor heating on the ground floor as well as radiators in each of the upstairs. This multi zoned smart heating is always at the right temperature in each of the zones or rooms. The Loxone system can automate this intelligent level of temperature control by taking into account the occupancy, schedules, time of day and weather.

Simple Control

Wiise has followed the Loxone Switch Standard on the Touch Pures throughout this home. This standard recommends the central touch point of the elegant switch be used to cycle through the lighting moods, while the touch points on the left-hand corner are for blinds control and the ones on the right-hand corners control the multiroom audio. This standard introduces an intuitive way for occupants to control a room or space they’re in without needing to familiarise themselves with complicated control panels.

Multimedia

Off the open plan entertaining areas of the ground floor, you’ll find the multimedia room. This room features all the high tech AV equipment you’d want to be immersed in the latest action-packed blockbuster. The multimedia room can be transformed at just the touch of the button – activating Movie Mode. This lowers the blinds, adjusts the lighting and offers full control of the multimedia equipment via the Loxone Smart Home App.

Smart Ensuite

The ensuite bathroom features home automation elements. There are three different lighting circuits in this ensuite; including the ceiling spots, a colour-changing panel in the shower and backlighting for the mirror. Should the humidity reach a certain level, the extractor fan will know to turn on until the levels are back to normal. Plus, there’ll always be a toasty towel ready for when the homeowner gets out of the shower.

Colour Changing
Shower

The ensuite in this Loxone Smart Home boasts a walk-in colour-changing shower. The lighting can be set to show the most conducive colour for the time of day (scientists suggest blue light in the morning and red light in the evening before bed) or the occupant could set up a colour sequence to scroll through your favourite colours as they get ready to paint the town red.

Automated Windows

Wiise also automated the Velux roof windows with Loxone in this home. It’s not just about opening or closing the windows from an app… These windows are intelligently automated in the interest of energy efficiency. So if it gets too hot inside, the windows will open slightly to prevent overheating. Likewise, if the home needs to warm up and it is cold outside, the windows will close to allow for the central heating to be more effective. What’s more is if the Loxone Wind Sensor determines that the winds have picked up above a certain threshold, the windows will be closed in a bid to prevent any damage.

Garden Lighting

The lighting design in this home extends to the outside too. The architecturally pleasing home is literally cast into the spotlight with three outside uplights. Wiise also implemented colour-changing lighting along the pathway to the front door – giving a warm welcome to visitors and the family that lives here. With full control over the colours via the Loxone Smart Home App, imagine the possibilities with the likes of Christmas and Halloween! Additional garden features such as the pond at the rear of the home are also complemented by the Loxone Smart Home technology.

The customer has been left with a fully integrated smart home that is fantastic to use. It’s easy to use, it’s fun to show people, it’s fun to use, it’s cost-effective, safer, more convenient, energy efficient and looks absolutely fantastic.
