It’s child’s play in a Real Smart Home

6th June 2018 in Know How
Children – they show us a way to enjoy life that we have forgotten about a long time ago. Completely carefree they romp around the house and garden – filling hearts and homes with their laughter and joy. Parents have long gone through the process of childproofing theirs homes once their little monsters start exploring. From cupboards to anything with a wire – their inquisitiveness knows no bounds. Like many things in life, the way we ensure a safe environment for our little explorers is changing with time. The Loxone Smart Home is a great place to grow up. It not only provides around-the-clock protection, but gives your children an especially easy and fun way to control their surroundings. In this blog we’ll take a look at how…

Child-proof

thanks to specially-designed features

There is no greater love than the love a parent has for their child. Caring so much about our little ones, it is essential to know that they are out of harm’s way. This is when the Loxone Smart Home shines through by helping to ensure a safer environment. Your home being equipped with protection against burglary, water and smoke already gives you peace of mind but it doesn’t stop there as a Loxone Smart Home can also include several features to make child-proofing, well, child’s play.

Deactivated plug sockets

Children are always on a journey of discovery and that can sometimes get them into rather uncomfortable or even hazardous situations. You get to eliminate sources of possible danger by deactivating plugs that are easily accessible for your children.

Panic button

From a certain age it’s no problem to leave your children at home alone – but for a better feeling of safety, a switch can be configured to include a panic button. In case of potential trouble the flashing lights, alarm sound played on all multiroom audio speakers and the opening of blinds can help to get rid of potential intruders and draw the attention of neighbours. Additionally, there is also the option that you or any nominated person in the family will get a call straight away to alert you to what is happening at home.

Child lock for switches

Children love to play with interesting-looking objects. Especially when they know they shouldn’t. One example of that would be the Touch switch. To prevent music from turning on and off nonstop or lights flashing for no reason, you can temporarily deactivate specific switches – either in the whole house or in certain rooms. PS: The panic button, of course, remains active in all situations.

Tip: TV locked from 10pm

Is the TV still on after bedtime? The TV in your child’s bedroom can automatically be turned off and locked at 10pm. A great way to block any and all late night TV. Plus, you can also disable any games consoles after bedtime. A nice bit of automated parenting. Your trusted Loxone Partner can help you turn this feature into reality.

Child-friendly

thanks to around-the-clock thoughtfulness

A smart home becomes a Real Smart Home, by not only performing the automated processes but by also taking the youngest residents into consideration. The Loxone Smart Home has many features that help take care of the youngest family members.

A silent doorbell

When it’s time for the Sandman to visit, then your home can ensure the doorbell sound is deactivated so as not to disturb bedtime. You’ll still be notified if someone is at the front door with the gently flashing of the lights in the living room and kitchen, for example. This neat feature leaves your little one to nod off to the sound of silence.

Nightlight

Should you need to get up in the middle of the night – be it for a trip to the kitchen for a midnight snack or for a closet-monster check, your home will guide your way with soft, dimmed light. At the same time, this minimises the disturbance to anyone else in the family that is still fast asleep.

Rise and shine

“Get up, it’s time for school!” That one sentence can immediately take you back to mornings full of weariness and reluctance. But waking up your little morning grouches is easier in a Loxone Smart Home. Your home can gently start to wake them up at a certain time by playing their favourite music – a great way to start the day. We can’t guarantee it, but you might even find that your once grumpy children will turn into morning people.

Lullabies

Every parent knows the struggle, when your delightful dears just won’t fall asleep. You try bedtime-stories but as soon as you close that book you’re back at square one. Here is where your smart home can help – via the Loxone Speakers you can activate a playlist with your kids’ favourite audio books or lullabies, cradling your child further into dream world once you’ve muttered the words ‘The End.’. You’ll have full playback control of the audio from your phone whichever room you’re in and the audio can automatically turn off after a set time.

No more growing pains

Time flies by and before you know it, your toddler has turned into a tough teen. That might cause some troubles for your family but not for the Loxone Smart Home – the functionality in every room can be adjusted and new features can be added in no time to ensure that the room lives up to new expectations and changes in how it is used.

Tip: Homework time

Let’s be honest, hardly anyone has enjoyed doing their homework as a child; pretty much everything else seems more interesting in that moment. Keep your child focussed by creating an atmosphere that is conducive to studying. With one tap, you can activate a ‘Homework Mode’ turning on the desk lamp, setting the ambient lighting to a concentration-friendly colour and cutting the power to the TV and gaming consoles. Your trusted Loxone Partner can help you turn this feature into reality!

Child’s play

thanks to the intuitive control

A Real Smart Home knows its’ job – it knows what, when and how to do it. But if you need to take control at any moment, you can, with one touch on a switch or a tap in the app. A big advantage is that – whether via the app or switch – operating your Loxone Smart Home is child’s play.

Control – the same in every room

Our revolutionary touch standard concept is so easy to use that even the youngest member of your family will quickly get the hang of it. The mode of operation is uniform throughout your home on each Touch switch – be it the nursery, living room or kitchen. With our switch standard, you and your family are guaranteed a simple way to control all the different features in each room. Our recommendation: The large middle touch point for the lighting, and the four smaller touch points for shading and music. If you don’t have music in a room, for example, then the touch points can be assigned to control a different feature.

One app – with tailored control

The free Loxone Smart Home App offers a detailed level of control that remains intuitive to use. You can personalise the features that your children have access to, allowing them only to control certain areas of your home – such as the TV room or their bedroom. (Of course, you probably wouldn’t want the kids to be able to control anything in the master bedroom.)
I like the app the best. It’s so easy that I can turn off the lights without having to go to the switch. I show the app to my friends in school because it’s cool to use.“ Julia, 10 years old and smart home resident.
