Challenge

The client wanted a fully integrated smart home that was simple to use, aesthetically clean, and designed around how they actually live. Lighting needed to be carefully layered to provide ambience, task lighting, and feature lighting throughout the home. The system also had to combine lighting, heating, audio, security, and future blind control into one seamless solution without cluttering walls with multiple switches and controls. Reliability and resilience were also key, including maintaining lighting during power outages.

Solution

We designed both the automation system and the complete lighting plan. Layered lighting throughout the property creates the perfect balance of ambience, task, and feature lighting, all controlled through intelligent automation.

Loxone Touch wall switches control lighting scenes and whole-house audio while also acting as thermostats in each room, keeping the interface simple and eliminating unnecessary wall clutter. Most lighting runs on 24V, providing smooth dimming and ensuring continued operation during power outages via Loxone’s Power Supply & Backup.

Presence detection is installed in every room, automatically controlling lighting and doubling as part of the burglar alarm system. A triple-click on selected switches turns off all lights and music while arming the alarm, ideal for bedtime or leaving the house. The doorbell integrates with the audio system, playing only in selected rooms and at chosen times. The result is seamless, intelligent automation that enhances everyday living.

We chose Loxone because it allows us to design smart homes properly integrating lighting, audio, heating, and security into one intelligent system. It keeps walls clean, simplifies control for the homeowner, and delivers a level of automation that truly fits around how our clients live.
