Welcome to Omid’s Law, Our New Blog Series!

21st April 2016 in Backstage

Welcome to the very first edition of Omid’s Law – a new blog series featuring Omid’s musings on the latest news in the emerging technology sphere.

If you’re a Loxone Partner, you probably already know Omid, but for those who don’t, we’re kicking off the first blog in this series with a little interview style introduction to the man behind the witty puns and desert boots.

Omid will then take over the reigns for the subsequent blogs to share his thoughts on new gadgets, Loxone products, App hacks, recent news & events and more.

So, Omid, tell us a little bit about your role at Loxone.

I’m a Partner Consultant, which means I generally and look after anything and everything a Loxone Partner could throw at me. Usually that means helping and making recommendations on the planning of their installations to educating them on current and new technologies. Essentially, I’m an encyclopaedia of answers. Like Encarta 95, but a Tech & Home Automation edition.

How long have you worked here?

I started in 2013, having seen Philipp on a BBC News story. Philipp was discussing the struggle he was facing to find the right ‘tech-savvy’ staff to join his team. He laid out the gauntlet, I accepted his challenge.

Favourite thing about working here?

Cake mostly. That aside, I love solving problems. A large part of what I do is to transfer all my knowledge to our Partners to ensure their installations go as smoothly as possible. Of course, there are inevitably situations that present some challenges, but coming up with creative solutions to these challenges is something I really enjoy, it motivates me.

I do love working in a “nerdy technology” industry, I won’t lie. Partners ring me up to tell me about the latest gadgets and devices they’ve been trying out, and people send me products to test and integrate with Loxone. What’s not to love about that?!

Favourite Loxone product or feature?

Loxone Multi Extension AirMy favourite Loxone product is the Multi Extension Air. It’s a little like the ugly duckling in the sense that people overlook it or glance at it with suspicion, yet it does so much!

It delivers so many features for a reasonable price, yet no-one sings its praises and I feel it’s unappreciated. To me, it’s like the one kid in PE that no-one wants on their team. Multi Extension Air, I choose you!

Dark or Light mode?

Hmm, definitely dark. It has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Last cool thing you bought?

FLIR-ONE-Android

The Flir One (www.flir.com) thermal imaging attachment for Android (yes, that’s a thing!) I know it may sound a bit dull, but I promise you will see its uses soon. Watch this space.

What’s on your wishlist?

Amazon Echo. I’m eager to get my hands on a UK version once released here. I’ve been doing a lot of reading up on it and can’t wait to put it through its paces.

Music you’re listening to at the moment?

Right now, I’m enjoying listening to Jack Garratt.

Describe your dream home in one sentence…

A log cabin in the Canadian mountains complete with personal ski slope, sauna and thermal pools (controlled by Loxone of course!)

Stay tuned for the next episode of Omid’s Law, where Omid will be offering a very ‘well-rounded’ report on an exciting new gadget he’s recently bought.
