Smoke & Presence Detector Tree

The Smoke & Presence Detector Tree combines a presence sensor and a smoke detector in a single device. It provides optical smoke detection according to EN 14604 for early fire warning, along with reliable detection of presence, motion, and brightness.

The integrated presence sensor can also detect some pets. Although the sensitivity of the sensor can be reduced, there is no dedicated technology that excludes the detection of pets.

Mounting Position & Planning

The installation of smoke detectors must comply with all country-specific regulations and standards.

For optimal protection, install multiple smoke detectors throughout the building.

For reliable motion detection by the integrated presence sensor, correct placement on the ceiling is also essential. For more information, see the section Motion Detection Range & Placement.

If possible, smoke detectors should be mounted centrally on the ceiling, at least 0.5 m (1.64 ft) away from walls, beams, or furniture that could obstruct the entry of smoke.

In hallways up to 3 m (9.84 ft) wide, the maximum spacing between two smoke detectors should not exceed 15 m (49.21 ft). The distance from the smoke detector to the end of the hallway should be no more than 7.5 m (24.6 ft). Smoke detectors must also be installed at intersections, junctions, and corners.

If a room is divided by a gallery, platform or loft, a smoke detector must be installed below it if the platform is larger than 16 m² (172.22 ft²) and both length and width are greater than 2 m (6.56 ft).

Ceiling structures such as beams or suspensions that create separate ceiling areas must also be taken into account. If the height of these structures exceeds 0.2 m (0.66 ft) and the resulting ceiling area is larger than 36 m² (387.50 ft²), a smoke detector must be installed in each section.

Not mandatory! Recommended for optimal protection

Recommendation: Use Smoke & Presence Detector as a heat detector

Mounting on Sloped Ceilings

The smoke detector can be mounted on the ceiling or wall, with ceiling mounting being preferred. A minimum distance of 0.5 m (1.64 ft) from any obstacles must be observed.

Mounting

First, insert the supplied 9 V battery into the device.

A battery is essential for operation. Installation without a battery is not possible.

Secure the supplied plastic base to a flat surface using screws.

To prevent air draft, the installation conduit should be sealed airtight.

Connect the power supply (orange/white terminal) and the Tree data lines (green/white terminal).

Place the detector onto the base and turn it clockwise until it clicks securely into place.

After that, switch on the power supply. Once the detector is successfully connected to the Miniserver, it will flash orange shortly after. The detector is then ready for pairing.

Commissioning

In the delivery state, pairing mode is active as soon as the power supply is established, the battery is inserted, and the device is mounted onto the base.

Then follow the pairing procedure on the Tree Interface.

If the detector is not mounted correctly, the LED will flash orange/red after programming. Additionally, in Loxone Config, a message will be displayed indicating that the device has been removed.

Function Test

1. Press and hold the entire housing to activate the function test.

2. After approx. 3 s, an acoustic signal will sound and will continue as long as the housing is pressed.

  • If the device is functioning properly, the signal will stop once the device is released.

  • In case of a fault, the error signal will sound and repeat every minute.

    • Possible causes: low battery, sensor fault

Extended Function Test (with Test Gas)

To perform an extended function test with test gas (e.g., smoke spray), the service mode must first be activated.

Press and hold the housing for more than 3 s to trigger the function test. The service mode will be active for 60 s.

During this time, the detector can be tested with test gas.

Interconnected Smoke Detector

Smoke and presence detectors on the same Tree branch are directly interconnected. If one detector detects smoke, all detectors on the branch immediately sound an alarm. The alarm is forwarded device-to-device, without going through the Miniserver.

Up to 50 Smoke and Presence Detectors can be connected to each Tree branch, with a maximum branch cable length of 500 m (1640 ft).

The Interconnect function is certified. In many jurisdictions this type of interconnected alarm system is required, ensuring all detectors trigger together even without a central controller.

When an alarm is triggered by the Miniserver, all Tree Smoke and Presence Detectors and all Air detectors supplied by 24V power supply also trigger an alarm.

Motion Detection Range & Placement

For reliable motion detection, correct placement of the Smoke & Presence Detector on the ceiling is essential. The following illustrations show typical detection ranges depending on the mounting height.

Sensitivity does not define a fixed detection boundary, but adjusts internal parameters that influence range and responsiveness.

To selectively exclude areas or define specific detection zones, use the stickers included in the package.

Set volume thresholds

In the properties window, a diagram for configuring threshold values can be opened under "Volume thresholds".

The diagram is based on the current ambient sound level of the selected Smoke & Presence Detector and supports the adjustment of the thresholds for presence and sound alarm. Temporary noise sources such as dishwashers, construction noise, or traffic noise must also be taken into account.

False Alarm

CAUTION: Smoke, dust, steam, electromagnetic interference, condensation, and insects can cause false triggers.

CAUTION: Drafts can affect smoke detection.

After a false alarm, clean the device with a dry cloth and perform a function test.

Battery Replacement

1. Remove the detector from the base by turning it counterclockwise.

2. Replace the 9 V lithium battery with the recommended battery.

3. Reattach the detector to the base by turning it clockwise.

4. Perform a function test.

CAUTION: There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced improperly. The replacement must only be with the same or specified type.
Do not expose the battery to heat, fire, or direct sunlight. Do not recharge, short-circuit, or open the battery. Dispose of the used battery in accordance with local regulations.

Programming Example

Double-click the Fire and Water Alarm function block to select the inputs and outputs of the smoke detector.

Alternatively, the inputs and outputs can be manually dragged onto the programming page. For example, the inputs "Brightness" and "Presence" can be used with the Lighting Controller.

Monitor Online StatusYou will be notified via System Status or Could Mailer if the device is no longer available or offline.
As this device and it's functionality are critical to safety, it is not possible to disable this setting for this device.
---
Serial NumberSpecifies the serial number of the device.

Enter 'Auto' to automatically pair a Tree device with unknown serial number.
This can only be used if there is only one Tree device of the same type on a standalone Miniserver (not in a Client-Gateway setup).
Save in the Miniserver to pair the Tree device.
Afterwards the program must be loaded from the Miniserver to transfer the actual serial number of the Tree device into the program.
---
Fire alarm detection mode Specifies whether the smoke detector triggers a fire alarm in response to smoke, heat, or both.---
Enable Interconnection If checked, this detector communicates with other detectors on the same Tree branch.
Interconnected detectors on the same Tree branch will trigger alarms simultaneously in the event of a fire.

Overrun time motionThe 'Motion (Mo)' input remains active following the last detected motion for the set time. A higher value means less packets have to be sent via Tree and Link.
If the motion detector is used for the alarm system, the time is automatically set to 3 seconds when the alarm system is armed.
