The Summer House

The Summer House

Challenge

The client brief was fairly simple, they wanted to be able to control and monitor everything centrally with the possibility to do this both locally and remotely through a simple interface. With the ability to schedule automated tasks at certain times of the day, days of the week and that take weather conditions into account.

The Summer House was designed as a multi-functional area for the whole family to utilise all year round, during the day a Pilates studio for the wife to host clients with the ability to stream live to wider audience. A gymnasium in the evenings for the husband and older children, an entertainment area over the weekend and chill out room whenever required.

Solution

Loxone's ability to schedule multiple automated tasks from heating the area to a pre-set temperature via shading, underfloor heating and motorised opening/closing of the windows. Enabling music or revealing media screens behind pictures on the walls, set specific lighting moods as they enter the Summer House at certain times of the day or easily control the space locally via a single Touch Pure switch.

Monitoring was also an important requirement to ascertain the thermal performance of the building and the ability to enable energy monitoring when the client adds solar panels in the future.

The Loxone Miniserver also provided the homeowners with the additional benefits of an alarm system when the house was not in use, lighting scenes for the garden and being able to hear and communicate via the Loxone intercom at the front door of the main house over 200m away.

We wanted to make the most of our summer house for all the family to use for work and pleasure throughout the year. The building design was our primary focus being able to use the space for multiple functions inside and out, the Loxone technology gave us the ability in effect to change the space visually and functionally to meet our requirements thanks to Smarter Building Solutions design.
