Challenge
Converting the electrical infrastructure in an existing property to a self-consumption network requires a precise preliminary analysis. Costs and effort must be carefully monitored to ensure a profitable project for all parties involved. The challenge was to develop a solution that optimizes the existing systems while maximizing energy efficiency and use.
Solution
The crescent-shaped building with a central house connection and three main electrical distributions proved to be ideal for combining the three house entrances with a total of 12 residential units into a ZEV. By installing a generous photovoltaic system of over 60 kWp on the barrel-shaped carport roof, the property became a plus-energy property. In order to increase self-consumption and use the energy mainly within the buildings, precise energy data collection and a flexible energy management system were essential.
In addition, the energy consumed, differentiated between solar energy and grid energy, had to be billed to the respective ZEV participants. These tailor-made solutions were implemented with the help of Smart-me for smart metering and billing solutions as well as the Loxone building automation system.
The existing charging stations in the carport were replaced by a newly created charging infrastructure from Smart-me and integrated into the billing portal. In combination with Loxone, the electric vehicles can now be charged with solar energy. In addition, the existing hot water boilers are also operated with solar energy, which further increases self-consumption. Thanks to attractive visualization, each ZEV participant always has an overview of their energy flow.
Overall, our solution not only enabled the customer to significantly reduce energy costs, but also to improve control over their energy consumption and use renewable energies more sustainably.
