The Meridian Business Park in the south of Cologne is a modern office and commercial park. The park naturally has a parking garage with parking spaces that are leased permanently to local companies.

Until now, the parking garage's entrance and exit gates could be opened with a key fob. While this was not a problem for long-term tenants who had a key fob, guests had to stop and remove the key fob from a key safe with a PIN to open the entrance gate. They then replaced the key fob before being allowed to enter. This stressful process was required again upon exiting. Pedestrians also performed the same procedure at a side door when picking up their cars parked in the parking garage.

In addition to the hustle and bustle and the inconvenience of getting out in the rain, the key fob and the key safe with a PIN caused further problems. Some drivers accidentally took the key fob with them. As a result, the next guests were temporarily standing in front of the entrance gate, unable to enter the parking garage.

In addition, employees had to laboriously change their PINs on-site, as time-controlled management of the key safe's PIN wasn't possible until now. Since there was no digital extension for the existing system and a complete replacement of the system was out of the question, an alternative was needed.

By integrating a Loxone Miniserver into the existing gate control system and installing NFC Code Touch terminals at the entrance and exit pillars, and on the stairwell, we have found a sustainable and cost-effective solution. Customers can now easily open the parking garage gates by entering and exiting by simply entering their PIN. The pedestrian access has also been equipped with an NFC Code Touch, allowing pedestrians to access the Meridian Business Park parking garage directly.

Another advantage of the integrated Loxone solution: PIN codes can be managed online and are only valid during the respective business hours and grace periods. A PIN for 24/7 access is also available for special events. Furthermore, the parking garage gates can be opened remotely via remote access.

The existing employee key fobs can be replaced with smaller and less expensive NFC tokens in the future. The new solution enables remote management, eliminating the need to lock a lost token directly in the parking garage. In addition, the NFC tokens ensure employees have 24/7 access to the parking garage.
