Challenge

Planning and integrating other trades proved to be a challenge. In particular, coordinating with HVAC and building services (which typically involves electricians handling the standard installation) requires careful planning and a great deal of patience during preliminary discussions. Establishing a clear division of labor—specifying exactly which company is responsible for which part of the work—is particularly important in commercial buildings, yet also very difficult to achieve. Who assumes liability in which cases? Who is responsible if something does not work correctly? During programming, special attention should be paid to logging. In case of doubt, this provides clear evidence of which values were transmitted to other control systems.

Solution

In the Prein Concert Hall, the LOXONE system serves as the central control unit for all audiovisual and building technology components. The goal was to create an intuitive, reliable, and highly flexible control solution that meets the needs of both technically savvy users and musicians without specialized knowledge.



LOXONE intelligently networks all relevant systems and controls them centrally. These include, in particular, the audio system (including routing via the Dante-enabled matrix), the entire lighting system (auditorium lighting via DALI and stage lighting via DMX), media functions (audio server including file playback), shading (venetian blinds), and room climate control (heating, ventilation, humidity, temperature, CO2).

A key feature is scene-based control: complex sequences such as concert operations, lectures, or events can be activated with a single button press (“Event Mode”). This automatically sets all required systems—from sound and lighting to room technology—to the defined state.



Operation is possible either via permanently installed Touch-Pure Flex units in the hall or remotely via smartphone and tablet. Different user roles allow for a clear separation of access rights, ensuring both simple operation and professional intervention options.



In addition, LOXONE handles central energy management tasks: The system can be completely powered down to minimize standby losses and is activated as needed. At the same time, measurements such as CO₂, temperature, and humidity are recorded and transmitted to the building management system, ensuring an optimal indoor climate.



The integration of all systems into a single platform creates a future-proof, scalable, and particularly user-friendly comprehensive solution. LOXONE functions not only as a control system but also as an intelligent interface between media technology, building automation, and the user.

LOXONE usually plays a very significant, central role in my projects. Its integration with almost all systems makes it particularly interesting. “Can’t be done” isn’t an option. If existing hardware reaches its limits, we develop custom solutions for our clients. In this project, none of that was necessary.<br /><br /> <br /><br /> <br /><br /> <br /><br /> My best selling point is what I call “one-button operation”—a system that can be operated by anyone, even a complete novice. Often, however, the requirements are particularly demanding. Media technology involves many different disciplines: lighting, sound, stage, blackout systems, screens, projectors, signal routing, ventilation, heating, etc. Ideally, all of this should be as simple as possible to set up—preferably with a single button press to activate the desired scene. At the same time, a system should also offer a technician the ability to adjust as many settings as possible, specifically for non-routine applications.
