Slimmr shopping centre

At Slimmr, we understand that a shopping centre in the vibrant heart of Sluis - meaning that it requires an advanced and efficient building automation solution. Our project focuses on optimising lighting, heating, ventilation, cooling and security, with a strong focus on energy savings.



With an innovative approach, we want to position the shopping centre as a future-proof example of sustainability and efficiency, resulting in lower operating costs and an improved customer experience.



The most important requirement from the client was that the automation had to be future-proof, so that it could adapt to any changes in the future.



In addition, the client wanted a clear overview of the individual energy consumption of the stores, so that this bill could be settled annually.

The general lighting is equipped with smart sensors that automatically adjust the brightness to the natural light and the presence of customers. This not only contributes to a pleasant shopping experience, but also results in a significant energy reduction.



In addition, the thermal curtains at the entrances are automated, which means that they automatically switch on when the store is open and the outside temperature drops below a certain threshold. This prevents heat loss on cold days, as the roof hatches for ventilation are blocked in the summer as soon as the thermal curtains are active.



The climate system in the stores consists of several components that work together to provide an efficient heating and cooling system. Each store has its own heat pump, which extracts heat from a central water circuit. In the summer, an automated dry cooler on the roof ensures that the temperature of the circuit is reduced, which contributes to a pleasant indoor climate. During the colder months, two central heating boilers increase the temperature of the water circuit, so that the stores remain well heated.



The heating and cooling are controlled by a Miniserver that dynamically adjusts the temperature based on the number of customers present and the weather conditions outside. This guarantees a comfortable indoor climate, while unnecessary energy consumption is kept to a minimum.



For security, a camera system has been installed that works seamlessly with the building automation system, so that the shopping centre is always well protected. Individual energy meters for each store have been installed in the main distribution box, which are linked to the Miniserver. This provides real-time insight into the energy consumption per store and makes it possible to identify optimisation points.



The fire alarm control panel is also linked to it so that the building owner receives a message in the event of a fault or alarm, even if they are not present.
