Challenge

The challenge was to optimize the energy consumption of a 300 m² farmhouse converted into a holiday rental, equipped with 9 kW of photovoltaic solar panels whose production was largely underutilized. The main challenge was to maximize the self-consumption of surplus photovoltaic energy to drastically reduce the energy bill for this energy-intensive property. This required implementing an intelligent solution capable of automatically controlling high-energy consumers based on available solar production, while maintaining occupant comfort and without manual intervention.

Solution

We deployed a Loxone smart energy management solution that analyzes photovoltaic production in real time and automatically controls energy-intensive equipment. Advanced scenarios were created to activate water heaters only during peak solar production, thus guaranteeing hot water without consuming electricity from the grid. The heating and air conditioning system also dynamically adapts to the available surplus, prioritizing free solar energy for thermal comfort. This intelligent approach has enabled us to achieve a self-consumption rate of over 95% and to halve the gîte's energy bill, transforming the photovoltaic installation into a true profitability asset.

This project demonstrates Loxone's full potential in building energy management. By intelligently utilizing the 9 kW of solar panels, we transformed this installation into a high-performance and cost-effective system. Our client now benefits from a 50% reduction in their energy bill while maximizing the value of their solar production. This proves that well-designed home automation can have a direct and measurable impact on the profitability of a rental business. A quickly recouped investment and a perfect example of energy-efficient housing.
