Challenge
We were able to implement a particularly exciting project in Austria's highest glacier ski resort: A comprehensive energy monitoring system was implemented for the Pitztal Glacier Cable Cars – in the heart of the high alpine terrain at over 3,000 meters above sea level. A particular challenge was to transparently depict the numerous energy flows – from the cable cars and restaurants to snowmaking – while simultaneously fully recording the self-generated electricity consumption of the 1 MWp PV system, Europe's highest photovoltaic park.
Solution
With Loxone, we were able to implement a lean yet powerful solution. Existing energy meters were easily integrated into the system via Modbus TCP. At key points—such as the snowmaking pumps or the cable car stations—we installed additional meters with current transformers. Thanks to the existing on-site network structure, connecting all 39 measuring points was straightforward.
Today, the operators benefit from a central visualization that shows at a glance:
How much electricity is currently being consumed?
How much of this comes from their own PV generation?
Where do peak loads occur?
Are all measuring points online?
This not only creates a clear picture of current energy consumption and the existing base load—but also a sound basis for optimization within the system.

With Loxone, we have found a flexible solution that meets all our requirements – easy to integrate, stable in operation, and perfectly adaptable to our infrastructure.
