Single-family house Diepoldsau

Challenge

As part of this new construction project in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, a spacious detached house was built, designed from the ground up as a fully networked smart home. The goal was to intelligently plan the entire building and fully utilize all available digital possibilities – always with a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, comfort, and future-proofing.

All relevant building systems, such as lighting, shading, heating/cooling, ventilation, security technology, audio, and energy management, are integrated into Loxone and intelligently interconnected. The individual components are not only designed to function automatically but also to be logically coordinated to create a holistic living and user experience.

A particular emphasis is placed on the openness and expandability of the system. The technical infrastructure was designed to allow for the seamless integration of future technologies, new generations of devices, and additional functions at any time. This ensures that the building remains flexible, adaptable, and state-of-the-art in the long term.

Solution

The smart home was implemented through holistic planning from the early project phase. All requirements were defined in collaboration with the client and incorporated into a sophisticated automation concept. LOXONE serves as the central system, intelligently connecting and controlling all technical systems.

The complete building automation – from lighting and shading to heating, cooling, and ventilation, as well as security, access control, multi-room audio, and energy management – was centrally structured and logically linked. Instead of individual, isolated solutions, a seamless, coordinated system was created that combines comfort, efficiency, and user-friendliness.

Particular attention was paid to a clear electrical plan and sufficient reserves in cable routing, distribution concept, and network infrastructure. This ensures that future expansions or new technologies can be easily integrated. Open interfaces also allow for the integration of external systems and devices.

Through intelligent automation – such as presence-based lighting controls, demand-based climate control, and optimized use of self-generated electricity – the building operates largely autonomously and energy-efficiently. At the same time, the controls remain intuitive and flexible for residents at all times – via buttons, app, or individually defined scenarios.

This has resulted in a future-proof, scalable smart home that combines maximum living comfort with technological sustainability.

What sounds technically demanding feels completely natural with LOXONE.
