Challenge
The client wanted to be able to monitor and control everything remotely for his newly refurbished, high-quality townhouse. For example, making sure that the heating is not left on when the house is not in use, but when he does decide to visit, it is always inviting and comfortable when he arrives. The install required coordinating and integrating all of the heating options in the property: the wet underfloor heating, the electric underfloor heating, the radiators and the dual fuel towel radiators. Plus, also the client wanted to create fun and cool bedrooms for his children.
Solution
Lighting and Shading:
The Lighting in all of the rooms has a mixture of downlights using the Loxone DALI Extension and dimmable 5 amp sockets. As well as wall lighting using the Loxone Dimmer Extension. With all lighting scenes being initiated by the Loxone Presence Sensors in each room. There is Loxone automated shading throughout the bedrooms and on the skylights in the kitchen. Also some of the windows have been automated and are all integrated and controlled by Loxone. These windows are used to assist in ventilation for the kitchen. The children's bedrooms have LED Spot RBGW Tree and RGBW Strips for some colourful creative lighting scenes.
As the client is not always at the property, as a security measure, the shading and lighting is switched on and off using the presence simulation feature, which is implemented through the configuration side of the Loxone system.
Heating:
The heating comes from a mixture of different sources: wet underfloor heating for the kitchen area, electric underfloor heating for the bathrooms, and radiators for the reception and bedrooms. All of these sources are controlled by Loxone's Intelligent Room Controller. Their radiators are all wrought iron, traditional in style, so maintaining this aesthetic was important to the installation. Which meant that we ran them all from Loxone Valve Actuator Trees on the manifolds positioned on every floor. This had numerous benefits like meaning that we could keep the original valves on the radiators, no noise in the bedrooms of the actuators opening and closing, and increased efficiency. The electric underfloor heating in this property uses Loxone 1-Wire temperature probes and the 1-Wire Extension for accurate monitoring of floor temperatures.
Audio:
Loxone ceiling speakers were installed throughout the property, split up into several zones of audio using the Loxone Audioserver and Stereo Extensions.
Access:
Access to the front door and the side gate is authenticated using the Loxone NFC Code Touches, for a very convenient and quick way to gain access by simply holding the access NFC tag to the reader.
The client can also give out time sensitive codes for the side gate so deliveries can be stowed safely. He can do this fully remotely and in a straightforward manner from the Loxone app on his phone.
Control:
The house can be controlled remotely through the Loxone app. The property can also be controlled from iPads positioned on each floor of the property providing a convenient place to answer the Loxone Intercom and grant access, these are all powered and hardwired to the network and permanently display the Loxone app.
The ground floor has third party switches using the KNX extension, the rest of the house uses the Touch Pure switches for room control, including the Gold edition (previously known as the Vienna edition) shown in one of the pictures above.
Alarms and Monitoring:
The house is protected by the Loxone Alarm Siren Tree, plus the Loxone Caller Service. The smoke alarms are also integrated into the Loxone system, as well as the pump in the basement to warn of a potential escape of water.
