Challenge

The challenge was to transform an older building into a smart home. Dating back to the late 1950s, the building had very few conduits in the walls, most of which were already well-used or small. The client had the following requirements for their home:

- Energy optimization and intelligent room control

- PV and storage (installation and monitoring)

- Lighting control (including existing Philips Hue installation)

- Shading management

- Multiroom audio

- Access and security

- Control elements

Solution

We primarily used Tree devices for the implementation. In situations where Tree cabling wasn't possible, we utilized the advantages of Air devices. This enabled us to realize the customer's wishes as follows:

Energy optimization: By using actuators on the radiators, integrating the electric heater in the boiler, and integrating the new PV system with storage, we were able to significantly reduce the customer's overall energy consumption. As a result, the customer can save money through the installation.

PV and storage with monitoring: The monitoring of the newly installed PV system with storage is visualized via the Loxone app. This gives the customer an overview of their electricity production at all times and sees where their energy is being used.

Lighting control: Throughout the building, all lights were integrated using dimming and switching actuators, Hue integration, and presence detectors, allowing the desired lighting moods to be achieved in every room and at any time of day without manual operation.

Shading management: All electric roller shutters have been integrated and make a significant contribution to the indoor climate and security. The shading can be operated manually by the customer using all control elements or directly from the app.

Access and security: Access is achieved via a combination of intercom and NFC Code Touch, allowing the customer to enter using an NFC key or a self-defined code. Door and window contacts are used for the alarm system to detect any attempted break-in and trigger an alarm.

Multi-room audio: Quadral speakers have been installed in the kitchen, dining room, office, conservatory, and both bathrooms. This allows the same music to be played synchronously in every desired room and also triggers an alarm signal in the event of a break-in.

Control elements: All conventional light switches have been replaced with plastic Touch, Touch Pure, and Touch Pure Flex, allowing the customer to manually control each room in addition to presence detection.

The customer wanted to control their home with as few confusing apps as possible. With a Loxone installation, we were able to fulfill all of their wishes with a single app for the customer.
