More Than Just a Savant Alternative
Savant is a well-known name in luxury smart homes, offering premium control of entertainment, lighting, and other connected systems.
LOXONE takes a different approach: a complete automation platform where hardware, software, and intelligent control work together as one seamless ecosystem – delivering deeper automation, greater efficiency, and exceptional value.
Openness
LOXONE
In addition, Tree and Air technologies provide flexible wired and wireless deployment options.
This allows LOXONE to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of devices and systems while maintaining centralized automation logic.
Savant
Many integrations rely on manufacturer partnerships, compatibility updates, or proprietary hardware.
As a result, system flexibility can depend on the availability and ongoing support of specific integrations.
Scalability
LOXONE
The same platform and programming approach can be used across projects of any size.
This allows systems to grow alongside client needs without requiring a platform change.
Savant
While it can support large homes and estates, it is less commonly used for commercial automation projects.
As project requirements expand beyond residential use cases, alternative solutions may be required.
Intelligence
LOXONE
LOXONE is designed around an automation-first philosophy, where the Miniserver acts as the central intelligence of the building.
Prebuilt function blocks and intelligent automation logic allow systems to make decisions automatically rather than relying on manual control.
This reduces user interaction while improving comfort, efficiency, and reliability.
Savant
Savant excels at delivering premium control experiences and customized user interfaces.
Many functions are centered around user interaction through apps, touch panels, and remotes.
While automation is supported, the platform is often more focused on control than autonomous building operation.
Software & Costs
LOXONE
Software updates, apps, remote access, and configuration tools are included without recurring licensing fees creating lower and more predictable long-term ownership costs.
Savant
System changes and updates frequently depend on dealer services and as a result, both initial investment and long-term ownership costs are typically higher.
Configuration & Visualization
LOXONE
Once the automation logic is configured, a complete visualization is automatically generated in the LOXONE App.
This reduces commissioning time while eliminating the need for additional interface programming.
Savant
Creating these experiences often requires additional setup, dealer configuration, and premium hardware.
Changes and updates typically require ongoing dealer involvement.
Support & Maintenance
LOXONE
LOXONE Partner Coaches provide direct technical support throughout planning, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
The centralized system architecture simplifies diagnostics and reduces maintenance complexity.
This helps integrators resolve issues faster and minimize service visits.
Savant
Savant dealers typically serve as the primary support resource for clients.
Because systems are often highly customized, troubleshooting and modifications may require significant dealer involvement.
This can increase service requirements over the lifetime of the installation.
Openness
LOXONE
LOXONE offers numerous interfaces for integrating common standards such as KNX, DALI, Modbus, EnOcean and DMX.
In addition, there are certified connections to systems such as Apple HomeKit, Belimo and Bosch.
This allows LOXONE to be flexibly integrated into existing system environments – while maintaining centralized system logic.
KNX
KNX is an open standard that allows components from different manufacturers to be combined.
While this wide selection enables flexible system configurations, it also increases the effort required for integration and coordination during the project.
Scalability
LOXONE
LOXONE systems are fully scalable – from single-family homes to complex commercial projects.
Using the client-gateway architecture, multiple Miniserver can be networked and operated across multiple locations.
KNX
KNX systems are fundamentally scalable, but as project size increases, they require additional infrastructure (e.g., power supplies, line couplers).
This results in increased planning and installation costs.
Intelligence
LOXONE
The Miniserver is the central component of LOXONE home and building automation. It handles all control and automation features.
KNX
The intelligence of a KNX system is distributed across the sensors and actuators.
Software & Costs
LOXONE
All software, including apps, updates and remote access, is available royalty-free. There are no ongoing software costs.
KNX
The ETS software, which requires a license, is required for project planning.
Additional tools and updates may incur further costs.
Configuration & Visualization
LOXONE
Setup is quick and streamlined using LOXONE Config.
Preconfigured function blocks and Auto Config facilitate implementation.
The visualization is generated automatically and is available at no additional cost.
KNX
Project configuration is performed via the ETS and requires manual parameterization.
The use of different manufacturers and components increases the effort required for coordination.
Visualization requires additional programming effort. It also requires additional hardware, which incurs additional costs.
Support & Maintenance
LOXONE
Hardware and software come from a single source.
This reduces the number of interfaces and simplifies support and maintenance.
Centralized logic and automatic updates ensure stable operation.
KNX
Because multiple vendors are involved, support and service processes vary.
In practice, this can lead to greater coordination efforts and longer response times.

What is the difference between LOXONE and Savant Systems?
Savant is a premium smart home platform focused primarily on high-end residential projects, with an emphasis on user experience, entertainment, and lighting control – typically built around dealer-driven configuration and proprietary components.
Loxone is a comprehensive building automation solution for both residential and commercial properties. It unifies all systems (wired or wireless) into a single, automation-first platform designed for scalability and deep integration.
Is LOXONE a Savant alternative?
Yes. LOXONE is used by many specialist companies as a professional Savant System alternative. The system covers all areas of building automation – from lighting and shading to energy, access, and climate control – and is scalable to any project size.
What does the LOXONE functional warranty stand for?
With the development of our in-house technologies, LOXONE Tree and Loxone Air, we have pursued a clear goal: to reduce installation costs in residential and commercial properties to a minimum. The big advantage: everything is easily configured via Plug & Play and works together perfectly. It just works. We are so confident of this that we offer our partners within the LOXONE system a functional guarantee.
What happens if the Miniserver fails?
Our products and software tools are designed to perform reliably in continuous 24-hour operation throughout the entire lifetime of a building.
The Miniserver is the central control unit of every LOXONE installation. We have therefore paid particular attention to its reliability. The Miniserver has no moving parts, such as fans. In addition, it is extremely energy-efficient, which means that heat generation is not a problem anyway. A failure of the Miniserver is therefore extremely unlikely.
If individual sensors or actuators do fail unexpectedly, this has no effect on the rest of the system.
A LOXONE installation can operate entirely without an internet connection if desired. Only individual services, such as remote access via LOXONE App, are then unavailable. An internet failure therefore has no effect on the functionality of a LOXONE installation.
How secure is LOXONE?
Every LOXONE system is protected by the Miniserver’s security mechanisms, ongoing security updates, and general network security (in the hands of the user).
Many smart home platforms rely heavily on the cloud for system access and operation, creating a centralized point that can become a target for security threats.
LOXONE takes a different approach. The Miniserver serves as the local intelligence of the system, with automation logic running directly on-site rather than in the cloud. Core functions continue to operate even without an internet connection, helping ensure reliability, privacy, and uninterrupted performance.
Every LOXONE system benefits from the Miniserver’s built-in security features, regular software updates, and the protection of the local network infrastructure.
