LOXONE or Savant?
Which is the better fit for you.
LOXONE and Savant both offer premium smart home solutions but take very different approaches.
Loxone is built around an automation-first philosophy, where hardware, software, and system logic work as one unified ecosystem. This enables faster setup, deeper automation, and lower overall cost across residential and commercial projects.
Savant focuses on high-end residential experiences, particularly in entertainment, lighting, and custom interfaces. While polished, it often relies on proprietary hardware and dealer-driven programming, which can increase complexity and cost.
Both platforms are trusted globally. Here’s how they compare…
Control Architecture
LOXONE: LOXONE uses the Miniserver as the centralized brain of the system, managing all automation logic, device communication, and coordination across the property. This simplifies deployment and troubleshooting while creating a highly reliable automation platform.
Savant: Savant relies on controller-based architecture as well, but many projects require additional proprietary hubs, entertainment hardware, and specialized components depending on system complexity. Larger installations may involve multiple hardware layers.
Programming
LOXONE: LOXONE Config dramatically reduces programming time through prebuilt function blocks, auto-configuration tools, and intuitive automation workflows. Most systems can be configured quickly while still allowing for deep customization meaning faster commissioning, less errors, and the ability to make remote changes without unnecessary service visits – even empowering the property owner to changes and optimizations on their own.
Savant: Programming is handled through dealer-exclusive software and often requires more manual configuration for customized experiences. While the platform allows for polished interfaces and advanced personalization, setup can be time-intensive and changes typically require dealer involvement.
Scalability
LOXONE: Easily scales from single-family homes to hotels, offices, restaurants, multifamily developments, and large commercial buildings. The same platform can be expanded as client needs evolve.
Savant: Savant primarily focuses on luxury residential applications. While it can scale across large homes and estates, it is generally less common in commercial automation projects.
3rd Party Support
LOXONE: Supports widely adopted automation standards like Modbus, BACnet, DALI, DMX, KNX integration options, 0–10V, and more. Tree and Air technologies provide flexible wired and wireless deployment options while maintaining system stability.
Savant: Savant offers broad third-party integrations, particularly in entertainment, lighting, and consumer smart home products. However, many integrations rely on manufacturer partnerships, compatibility updates, and proprietary hardware requirements.
Support and Maintenance
LOXONE:Â Partner Coaches provide direct technical support to integrators throughout project planning, programming, and troubleshooting. Centralized architecture also helps reduce maintenance complexity.
Savant: Savant dealers often become the primary support resource for clients. Because systems are highly customized, troubleshooting can require significant dealer involvement and longer service timelines.

Advanced training allows partners to expand into high-margin verticals like climate, security, and commercial automation.
Savant: Savant training is built around authorized dealer certification programs. While comprehensive, it requires greater time commitment and is primarily geared toward dedicated luxury home integrators.
Visualization & Operation
LOXONE: LOXONE automatically generates a complete system visualization through the LOXONE App with no extra programming, licensing, or hardware requirements. Once the system logic is configured, the interface is ready to use immediately.
Savant: Savant provides a polished and visual user interface experience. Achieving these highly customized interfaces often requires additional setup time, premium hardware, and dealer configuration. Further, the Savant control app it is limited to IOS and Android devices – where LOXONE’s App is available on Windows and Linux as well.
Hardware Costs
LOXONE: LOXONE offers predictable hardware costs through its unified ecosystem of Miniservers, extensions, and peripherals. Fewer specialized devices are often needed to deliver advanced automation.
Savant: Positioned heavily toward the luxury market. Controllers, touch panels, remotes, and entertainment hardware typically comes at a premium price point, making projects significantly more expensive.
Software & Licensing Model
LOXONE: LOXONE eliminates recurring licensing fees and includes software updates, apps, and remote access. This creates predictable long-term costs for both integrators and clients.
Savant: Savant projects often involve premium hardware investments and ongoing dealer service costs when system updates or changes are needed. Long-term ownership costs can be significantly higher.
Central Control
LOXONE: At LOXONE, the Miniserver connects all components in the smart building – independently of the cloud or the Internet. LOXONE Config allows individual logic and processes to be tailored precisely to the requirements of each project.
Bosch Smart Home: In Bosch Smart Home, the Smart Home Controller forms the center of the system. It manages devices and scenes, but works in conjunction with the Bosch cloud. Local programming or individual logic is not provided.
Communication
Bosch Smart Home: Bosch Smart Home is a largely closed system and works primarily with Bosch’s own devices. However, individual third-party devices can be integrated via Zigbee 3.0, Matter, or platforms such as Apple HomeKit.
Openness & Interfaces
LOXONE: LOXONE offers numerous interfaces such as KNX, DALI, Modbus, EnOcean, and RS485/RS232. In addition, LOXONE is officially certified by Apple HomeKit, Bosch-Siemens, Belimo, and other manufacturers. This means that systems from a wide range of manufacturers can be integrated. As a result, Loxone is open to almost all areas of application.
Bosch Smart Home: Bosch Smart Home is a largely closed system and works primarily with Bosch’s own devices. However, individual third-party devices can be integrated via Zigbee 3.0, Matter, or platforms such as Apple HomeKit.
Logic & Customization
LOXONE: With LOXONE Config, you can freely create custom automations—from simple scenes to complex logic across multiple systems. This allows each project to be tailored precisely to its individual requirements.
Bosch Smart Home: The system works with predefined scenarios that are configured via the app. Custom logic or complex dependencies between different functions can only be implemented to a limited extent, if at all.
Scalability
LOXONE: LOXONE is freely scalable – from single-family homes to large commercial properties. Multiple Miniservers can be operated in a network or across multiple locations. This makes the system more than just a Bosch Smart Home alternative when it comes to larger projects.

FAQ
What is the difference between LOXONE and Savant Systems?
Savant is a premium smart home platform focused primarily on high-end residential projects, with an emphasis on user experience, entertainment, and lighting control—typically built around dealer-driven configuration and proprietary components.
Loxone is a comprehensive building automation solution for both residential and commercial properties. It unifies all systems—wired or wireless—into a single, automation-first platform designed for scalability and deep integration.
Is Loxone a Savant alternative?
Yes. LOXONE is used by many specialist companies as a professional Savant System alternative. The system covers all areas of building automation – from lighting and shading to energy, access, and climate control – and is scalable to any project size.
Does LOXONE work without the internet?
Yes. LOXONE operates entirely locally. All automations run directly on the Miniserver – independently of a cloud or internet connection. This ensures high stability, data protection, and operational reliability throughout the entire building life cycle. Only remote access requires an internet connection.
What does functional guarantee mean?
With the development of our in-house technologies, Loxone Tree and Loxone Air, we have pursued a clear goal: to reduce installation costs in residential and commercial properties to a minimum. The big advantage: everything is easily configured via Plug & Play and works together perfectly. It just works. We are so confident of this that we offer our partners within the Loxone system a functional guarantee.
How secure is LOXONE?
Access to smart home solutions that are operated via the cloud is often gained by logging in to the manufacturer’s website. This login can become a central point of attack. In the LOXONE system, there is no central node or external point of attack that can be hacked, as login to the Miniserver is done exclusively via the Miniserver itself – and this is located at the customer’s home and does not require an internet connection to perform its tasks.
Every Loxone system is protected by the Miniserver’s security mechanisms, ongoing security updates, and general network security (in the hands of the user).
What happens if the Miniserver fails?
Our products and software tools are designed to perform reliably in continuous 24-hour operation throughout the entire lifetime of a building.
The Miniserver is the central control unit of every Loxone installation. We have therefore paid particular attention to its reliability. The Miniserver has no moving parts, such as fans. In addition, it is extremely energy-efficient, which means that heat generation is not a problem.Â
If individual sensors or actuators do fail unexpectedly, this has no effect on the rest of the system.
A Loxone installation can operate entirely without an internet connection if desired. Only individual services, such as remote access via App, are then unavailable. An internet failure therefore has no effect on the functionality of a Loxone installation.
