Challenge
The clients wanted to have a simple, easy to use control system which integrates seamlessly with minimal visual impact to the architectural design. To include a highly efficient way to automate their beautiful newly built home, with minimal intervention needed for the day to day operation of the house, throughout the seasons.
Automated shading being a prerequisite along with access control for the gates, entrances to the house and pool changing room, so family and friends can have access. The clients also wanted music in every room and in the garden.
Solution
Lighting:We suggested the use of Orluna lighting for both the downlighting and uplighting, which we integrated into Loxone using Loxone Dali Extensions. These lights are implemented throughout the house due to their great colour rendering index and ability to smoothly dim. With most of the led strips in the coffers and dressing room being controlled using the Loxone RGBW dimmers. Dimmable 5 amp sockets are also used extensively throughout the house to provide even more flexibility. Loxone presence sensors are installed to automatically bring on lighting scenes.
Heating, Cooling and Shading:
With the large expanse of glazing and being south facing, shading is crucial and was therefore integrated with Loxone throughout. Heating is all underfloor, which is controlled by lots of Loxone valve actuators on six manifolds around the house, the air conditioning cooling units are also integrated and Loxone seamlessly switches from cooling to heating when required. The Air Conditioning is integrated via the Loxone Modbus extension.
The many pumps and valves in the plant room controlling the flow of hot water and heating are also controlled seamlessly by Loxone.
Audio:
Every room has Loxone speakers in the ceilings, along with access to Spotify, internet radio and a library of music. The speakers are also integrated with the door bell, alarms and voice announcements through Loxone. There is also a discrete 5.1 home cinema which is controlled by Loxone’s media controller and is integrated via RS232 and IP control.
Sky boxes and CCTV are distributed by Blustream matrix boxes to the TVs and all the sources are mapped and switched using the Loxone app.
Access and Intercom:
The NFC Code Touch is used extensively; on all the gates, access to various areas of the house and to the pool changing room. This allows authenicated access for all those who need it like friends and family and other people who need access to the gardens, etc. Loxone Intercoms are also used, as they are very discrete and fit very well with the general design philosophy of the property. Callers are displayed on the fixed iPads positioned in several strategic locations in the house, allowing you to talk to whoever is at the door or gates and allow access. These are powered and hardwired with a permanent connection to the network and operate in kiosk mode so as to always display the Loxone app.
Every room is fitted with KNX keypads which are programmed for the individual requirements of the particular room, providing visual feedback states and notifications. These are integrated into the Loxone system using the KNX extension.
Security and Alarm:
Loxone burglar alarm is installed along with the Loxone caller service and also a remote manned monitoring service using SIA, another great feature which Loxone has built in. Fire and smoke alarms are also integrated providing alerts through the app as well.
Having installed our first Miniserver in 2014 (which is still running), we have now been Loxone partners for 10 years! so we have always found Loxone to be a very reliable and flexible system with massive integration possibilities and have grown with them over the years. We have always been excited to see them launch new great products and look forward to installing lots more systems.
