Limit heating valves activations

Hi,

By activating statistics I have noticed that my heating valves get activated and deactivated too often (in my pov), something like multiple times per minute.

I guess this might be linked to the fact that I have manually set the Ths / heating up speed parameter and therefore the room controller just reacts as soon as the current temperature drops below the defined desired value. However I would be fine with allowing the temperature to go down by a few more decimals of a degree to avoid switching on and off the valves too often, which I suspect might reduce their lifespawn.

Is there any way to configure this behaviour (e.g. after reaching the desired temperature , allow for a drop of a few decimals or allow for a defined time period before turning the valves back on)?

Thanks

Hi,
You don’t say which valves you’re using so I’m assumming you’re using tree valve actuators? If you’re using on/off valves, make sure that the PWM option is selected.
Any reason why you have chosen to manually set the Ths parameter? I only ask as this changes over the course of the year, depending on outside temperature and other possible factors. Leaving it at 0 (auto) means that the system is constantly monitoring/learning your room heating up times.
Anyway, that aside, what value is your Td parameter (tolerance). This has a lot to do with maintain temp. Need more info on your heating setup – climate controller, intelligetn temp controller, intelligent room controller, etc.
Are you connecting the output to the HC or Hn on the intelligent room controller block?

Hi Duarte

I am mostly in agreement with Prem. However I am going to assume digital third party actuators as your graph shows Q3.

Firstly a big reason this will happen is the manual changes to Ths, bear in mind the entire functionality of doing this chnages the system from a proactive to a reactive one.

Another impact could be the Td parameter, however this only takes effect when switching between modes i.e from heating mode to cooling mode.

Fundamentally however if you have digital valves this is the expected action as to remain open a few more decimals as you have said could actually allow the room to overheat by several degrees as there will always be a lag from the action to the response as the heat from the source e.g the radiator is dumped into the room.

If these are wax slug actuators then the affect on their lifespan will be negligible, we would even recommend turning on PWM so that we can regulate them and therefore the room temperature better.

As more in depth diagnosis will require sharing of your config file I would recommend you open a support ticket for this by emailing [email protected]

Hi, thanks for your replies!

I am using 3rd party valves.

The reason for manually setting Ths is that my heating pump is not "cleaver", I mean, I can’t yet control it through the KNX installation and to avoid consuming too much energy I have it turn on via a scheduler instead of being always on. With this in mind, I assumed that the Loxone room controllers statistics would get polluted as it could try to heat up the rooms whilst the water of the heating system is not yet up to the target temperature since the heat pump might be turned off when Loxone tries to heat up the room.

My Td parameter is set to 5. However, I am not sure this is what you are referring to as I am currently using the Intelligent Room Controller and Td is documented as Frost protection temperature and not as Tolerance?

My setup is the following:

  • Hydraulic heated floor
  • Heat Pump that is heating up a water tank that cycles through the heated floor system
  • Using Intelligent Room Controller V1
  • Third party valves controlling each room
  • Ambient temperature sensors in each room

I have added a screenshot of one of the rooms config on the Loxone Config app

Hi Duarte,

You are using the Intelligent Room Controller V1, while still available both myself and Prem are referring to the parameters of the ‘new’ Intelligent Room Controller. This has been out for over two years now and with correct configuration in tandem with a Climate Controller and Intelligent Temperature Controller may give you much greater level of control.

Does Loxone have the ability to switch the heat pump on or off? As this coupled with an outside temperature reading and you would have a clever heating system there with a level of weather compensation
