Challenge

The team at ATSL were tasked with assessing the energy usage and identifying where the football club could implement change to eliminate waste and promote energy efficiency across their premises in Norfolk. ATSL were given access to the training ground and the stadium to conduct an in depth audit and to present our findings to the football club. Our ultimate aim was to formulate a plan for not only money saving but to promote sustainability in keeping with the club's ambition towards a greener future.

During the data gathering process, the ATSL team monitored a number of high usage zones which included changing rooms, gyms, large office spaces, bars and food kiosks.

The results were staggering and a multitude of areas were identified where the club could make substantial savings.

Solution

With the utilisation of Loxone components we created a number of trial boxes which enabled us to monitor the energy usage within each specific zone for a specific period of time. After the initial data collection was complete, we added automation to disable any circuits that were not needed. We discovered multiple zones across both the stadium and the training ground that were using energy wastefully when it was not required. We were able to highlight these areas to the club, who subsequently made procedural changes to help save energy.

With the release of the Miniserver compact we found that we could achieve most of the desired functions through this component alone. That coupled with the Energy Management feature on the app allowed us to easily track usage and plot results pre and post automation. The reliability of the remote connection into Miniservers from previous projects added reassurance that we would have no issues when needing to control various energy consumers- especially on a match day!
