New Loxone Fröling Extension Offers Demand-Driven Boiler Control

16th June 2015 in Technology

Boiler control in June? At this time of year, most of us are busy thinking about firing up the barbecue rather than firing up the boiler! However, given the notoriously unpredictable nature of the ‘Great British Summer’ and the fact that it’s usually the busiest time of year for moving house and undertaking big projects at home, we felt it was as good a time as any to release our new Fröling Extension.

The new Loxone Fröling Extension is, after all, a one-of-a-kind piece of kit.

A bit of background on Fröling first. As you may have guessed from the name, Fröling is an Austrian company, just like Loxone. They’re a little older than us though, having been founded in 1961. Fröling has dedicated more than 50 years to developing technology for the efficient use of wood as an energy source, and are now a household name across Europe for biomass boilers.

Until now, most biomass boiler control systems have predominantly used the outside temperature to estimate heating demand within the house and work out how much to heat the buffer tank.

Unlike traditional systems, the new Fröling Extension allows temperature readings to be taken on an individual room basis, thereby measuring the heating demand much more accurately. Depending on the installation, this can reduce energy costs by up to 30%.

Here are a few other highlights of the Fröling Extension:

  • Targeted boiler control system based on individual room requirements
  • Precisely regulated flow temperature
  • Accurate temperature reading and optimised energy use, resulting in cost reductions of up to 30%
  • Overview of the status of the heating circuit pumps and various boiler readings including buffer, boiler and flow temperatures
  • Can be used for up to 18 heating circuits, 8 boilers and 4 buffers
  • Notification of faults via email or phone call

As you’d expect, the new Loxone Fröling Extension is easy to configure in Loxone Config with a new function block. You’ll also need to install the latest version of the Fröling software too (Version 5.11 or higher)*.
