The ‘Man Cave’ – where chaps go to relax…
If you’re already a Home Automation convert and a regular visitor to our site, you’ll know all about the millions of different benefits that can be had from living in a Smart Home. And while impressive and useful, most of the main functions that spring to mind are pretty sensible - be it automating the curtains or blinds in your living room or saving money on the lighting used in your kids’ rooms - it’s all rather practical. But you can put the Miniserver to work in any room in your house. Assisting with whatever fanciful pursuits you’re into…

Smart Homes. Not-so-smart homes. Whose side are you on? Are you in the red corner still dwelling in a more traditional property sans the latest in home technology? Or are you in the green corner enjoying kicking back in a fully automated and intelligent home? And which is better? Well, in order to find out we pitted the two of them against each other in a five round bout. And we don’t think you’ll be overly surprised to hear whose hand we’ll be holding up in glorious victory... Well, we were never going to be the most objective panel of judges, were we?!

We’re glad to be able to say that more and more people are talking about Smart Homes and Home Automation than ever before. Whether it’s features in newspapers and magazines or mentions in blogs or on social media, there’s definitely a real buzz about home technology and automation in the air (well, 2013 is The Year of the Smart Home, after all...). But just because the subject’s on so many people’s lips, that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone knows exactly what they’re talking about.

A recent article in The Times about future home and office technology has painted a pretty extraordinary picture of the kind of things that we can expect to be seeing all around us in years to come.

Some of the more eye-catching ‘smart’ technologies mentioned in the piece include algae-tinted windows in which autotrophic organisms grow when it’s sunny to create shading and automatically dissipate when the sun goes in. Oh, and flying robots that clean your windows (yep, really!). There’s also some more down-to-earth and realistic predictions included too, most of which revolve around the idea of the ‘Internet of Things’ - something we’re big believers of here at Loxone.

From Friday 21st December to Monday 7th January we’ll be out of the office, recharging our batteries and getting ready for an even bigger push of Miniserver based Home Automation in 2013!
Our Delivery Schedule
If you’re planning on making any more purchases from our Webshop this year, we’d ask you to get your orders through to us by 12pm on Friday 21st. That way we can get your items dispatched from Austria that afternoon. You can still make orders over Christmas and New Year of course, you might just have to wait slightly longer than usual to receive what you’ve bought. If you order something between the 22nd and the 30th, we will dispatch on New Year’s Eve, so you shouldn’t be waiting for long. The next shipments will go out on Monday 7th January.

Why we rarely use the word ‘domotics’, and why maybe we should.
Home automation is, by all accounts, a relatively new industry. For this reason, it’s still in the process of evolving its own vocabulary, which can lead to different people using different words for exactly the same thing.
At Loxone, we generally describe our business as ‘Smart Home Automation’ or something similar, but we could equally have decided to call ourselves experts in domotics, which perhaps wouldn’t have been such a bad idea…

It comes as no surprise to anyone that when you walk into someone else’s house, it’s going to be different to your own. Different layout, different carpet, different lamps.

It’s variety like this which is the spice of life, and at Loxone, we don’t see why home automation should be any exception.

This question quite rightly comes up time and again amongst home owners, electricians and builders. When we’re being asked about it, the conversation often starts with something like:
- I really don’t need all the latest gimmicks
- It’s far too expensive for me
- I can’t see any real advantages
The subject of home automation is nothing new – products have been on the market for over a decade now – and yet most people out there haven’t got a clue what a house of the future might look like.

Just a few weeks ago I spent some wonderful days with my family on Katschberg (I'd like to grab the chance and recommend Falkensteiner Cristallo Hotel to everyone who might be planning a nice family holiday :-)
It was a lovely trip and now I am back home totally relaxed with my batteries recharged – and still rather shocked.
