Retrofitting a smart home

Retrofitting a smart home

Challenge

When renovating a detached house around three years ago, the owners were in no doubt: smart home technology and building automation were to be an integral part of their new home. As it was not possible to lay an unlimited number of new cables during the renovation, a wireless solution was required – one that could be integrated easily into the existing structure without major structural alterations.

Solution

The LOXONE Air products enabled the implementation of a wireless, fully-fledged building automation system that could be retrofitted:

Children’s bedroom: Night-time mode activated by push-button – the night light comes on and the blinds are lowered at the same time

Kitchen: Lighting control via push-button logic – one click for the kitchen light, a second click adds the room lighting, a double-click switches everything off

Living room: Setting the mood for a cinema experience via touchscreen, in combination with a projector and screen

Bathroom (ground floor): Motion-sensor-controlled lighting and a dedicated lighting concept for bathing and showering

Bathroom (first floor): Connection of electric fitness equipment via a smart socket – started at the touch of a button

Bedroom: Automatic shading of the skylight – raised during the day (except in hot weather), automatically lowered in the evening for privacy and undisturbed sleep

Plant lighting: Special lighting solution where a spotlight remains on in green when the room lights are off to provide light for the plant

Security: Smoke alarm in the attic

A major advantage for us was that LOXONE allows you to integrate many Air products into the system. This meant we were able to retrofit our shading, lighting and even our fitness equipment – without any complicated wiring.
