Hi Karl

Ultimately this will depend on the physical heating arrangement. Str is a start threshold measured in % of valve actuator openings of connected IRC’s.

For instance if you had retrofitted Loxone heating into an existing heating system. Then this system may have no forms of bypass or sacrificial circuit. Therefore you would want to ensure that there is a sufficient demand on the system before the source turns on to prevent damage to the boiler by hot water coming back to it.

On a modern system there may well be suitable bypasses in place to prevent this, however you may have for instance a condensing boiler installed, therefore the boiler has to be on for a certain period to reach its condensing stage. In this instance Str would again be used to ensure a reasonable demand and to limit the risk of short cycling.

In most instances leaving at 30% will be more than adequate (roughly right is usally better than completely wrong). For more in depth info on a particular system feel free to get in touch with your Partner Coach.
