Thanks to its powerful feature set, Loxone Config is unique in the industry. Our smart home software is suitable for smart home project of all kinds – from condos to mansions and everything in between. We continuously strive to improve Loxone Config by adding new features and simplifying the overall configuration process. While developing the new version we set ourselves the goal of creating a new generation of Loxone Config that would blow all other versions out of the water. Today we proudly present our largest release to date: Loxone Config 8!
8 New Features For Your Smart Home Projects
Our software has undergone a renovation of its own. Features have been reworked and extended to allow you to implement smart homes even more quickly and easily:
#1 – Auto Configuration: Basic Configuration With One Click
With Loxone Config 8 we introduce a revolutionary new feature: Auto Configuration. The Auto Configure button will save you heaps of time by taking care of the entire basic configuration. How it works:
- Create Rooms and Categories for your project and learn in any peripheral devices (such as Loxone Touch, Motion Sensor, Valve Actuators, etc.)
- Assign a room and (in some cases) category to each device.
- Click Auto Configure and you’re done!
With Auto Configuration, a page for every room is created, and all major program components (automatic blinds, lighting control, intelligent room control, Music Zone) are inserted and connected to the respective inputs and outputs (or positioned next to the function blocks.)
From there, you simply need to do the fine-tuning, such as the driving timings for the blinds or the creation of scenes and the basic configuration is completed.
#2 – Fresh, New Interface Design
Loxone Config itself has had a fresh coat of paint so to speak. The new look gives it a more user friendly feel and shows all important functions at a glance. In addition, we’ve redesigned the ribbon menu along the top, so that it only shows the options you need, when you need them.
Additionally, we have added some very handy new features, such as a mouse-over function that displays the most important properties of an item on your page at the top right corner of your page.
#3 – Configuration using Drag & Drop
We pride ourselves on the ‘drag and drop’ nature of Loxone Config. But let’s be honest, joining up inputs and outputs to the function blocks was a bit of a pain wasn’t it? Especially if, like me, you like everything to be aligned and looking neat. Well, great news! You can now drag and drop all inputs and outputs directly into the function blocks. Just grab your input or output from your periphery tree and hover over the function blocks on the page. The function blocks that have suitable inputs will flash to let you know you are doing the right thing. Then just release your mouse button and your inputs and outputs will be automatically connected and positioned next to the function block.
#4 – Dynamic Blocks
Our function blocks have lots of inputs, outputs and parameters to allow you to configure your smart home individually. Everyone who has used Loxone Config knows that a page can very quickly fill up with these large blocks and many inputs or outputs are not used.
For a cleaner, neater configuration we have reduced the size of the function blocks. By default only the most commonly used inputs and outputs for each function block are displayed. Need more functionality? Simply click the plus symbol to insert any additional inputs and outputs or parameters, or alternatively, just drag an object onto the block and select the appropriate input or output.
Connecting multiple items to the same input or output on the function block? The function block will automatically resize to reflect this and keep your configuration nice and tidy!
#5 – Faster editing of objects
Now you can edit the settings of the objects even more quickly. By clicking on the object name you can easily edit name, room and category.
#6 – Align Your Configuration
A clear and clean configuration is not only important at the time of the install, but long after your customers have moved into their home. A Loxone Smart Home can always be enhanced with new features, therefore, it’s really important to have a structured Config file, so that if you need to make adjustments, add new features or learn in new devices, you’ll be able to navigate your Config with ease.
#7 – Improved Simulation & Liveview
The Simulation tool allows you to test the configuration before actually loading it onto a Miniserver. You can look at the current status of inputs and outputs, and operate switches or other inputs on your screen to observe the behaviour of your configuration. The Liveview on the other hand allows you to monitor your configuration in real time as it is running on a Miniserver.
We have redesigned both Simulation and Liveview to make them clearer. When using analogue inputs and outputs, you’ll notice that the values and the respective object types are now more visible.
The favourite feature of our testers: In Liveview, you can now set Virtual Inputs directly from your computer by clicking on an input, the information is then sent to the Miniserver and will cause your real installation to respond to your input.
#8 – More Performance For Your Miniserver
Loxone Config 8 also brings with it improvements for your Miniserver. With Version 8, the memory requirements of your Miniserver are up to 20% lower, giving you more space for your configuration.
Many More Improvements
Our developers have spent the last few months tightening up the screws in many places throughout Config. Loxone Config 8 brings you improved search and diagnosis functions, optimised function blocks, improved network communication and more. Details can be found in our Changelog as usual.

Compatibility With The Loxone App
If you upgrade to Loxone Config 8, your Miniserver will still be fully compatible with the Loxone Smart Home App. Please note that the Loxone Classic App is not supported by Miniservers running version 8.
Compatibility With 3rd Party Software
With Version 8, the old, proprietary WebSocket interface (LoxApp2.xml) will be replaced with the new, standard-compliant Websocket implementation (LoxApp3.json). Scripts or third-party software, which are using LoxApp2.xml will not work with Miniservers that are running on version 8.
Please use the new WebSocket interface along with LoxApp3.json for communication with the Miniserver. The API description can be found as part of our documentation.
Loxone API >
The ribbon bar in Loxone Config 8 has now been revised to make it more intuitive. Some features which we previously a fixed part of the ribbon have been moved, but don’t worry, you’ll soon be familiar with the new layout!
Adaption of Existing Configurations
With the update to Loxone Config 8, the existing configuration is automatically adjusted to simplify the view. The Smart Home devices are reduced in size and optimally placed. You have more overview of your Loxone Smart Home configuration.
