Living with Smart Home Automation – Q&A, Part 2: The Lady of the Manor
In a recent blog we spoke to an avid automation fan about just what it is that he loves about his Smart Home and he told us all about it. But home technology isn’t just mildly diverting gizmos and gadgets for bored men to play with… And we can back that statement up! In this blog we bring you the thoughts of the lady of the house and just what it is about living in a Smart Home that she loves so much.
Name: Victoria Nader
Location: Northern Austria
Hobbies: Running, Playing music, singing and trying out all the Smart Home features at home!
Loxone fan since: Manuel introduced her to Home Automation recently…
THE DECISION: TO GO SMART OR NOT?
If I’m entirely honest, I wasn’t totally convinced by Smart Home Automation when it was first suggested to me by my husband. In fact – I was pretty skeptical! I wasn’t sure exactly how useful it would prove to be and if it would be worth the expense. So I asked Manuel to show me a Smart Home in action – so he did! We visited one of Loxone Case Studies and I’ve not looked back since… I was an instant convert.
A SMART HOME IS FOR ME …
… mostly because of the peace of mind that it offers. We both work long hours and have plenty to keep our brains occupied with day to day. Having a Loxone-controlled home helps alleviate a lot of the stress and cuts down on many of the menial tasks that can take up so much precious ‘down-time’.
SAFE AND SECURE
Since we automated our place, I’ve felt a lot more secure and never worry about burglary or anything like that. In a regular ‘Dumb Home’ an intruder could break in unnoticed. It’s a lot harder here and even if we suspect something’s afoot, we can check it out using the free app and then call the police. Not that that will happen, of course (hopefully!).
MY TOP 3 SMART HOME FEATURES
We asked Victoria what her three favourite things were in her Smart Home. And here are her answers…
1. BYE-BYE, SALES GUY!
I love that I now know who’s at the door before I’ve opened it (or not opened it as the case may be!). If it’s a salesman or anything – I don’t have to face the effort of seeing them and having to convince them I’m not interested. We can open our door remotely too which is useful when we need to let in people like contractors when we’re both at work.
Our house has 35 windows. Sounds a lot, doesn’t it? Well, you’d be surprised – they soon add up! To manually shut all curtains and draw blinds would be a bit of a drag – and it was, pre-automation. But now they’re all hooked up to the Miniserver, we let Loxone do the work! We still have control of course, it’s just a lot less effort now.
3. MUSIC IS IN THE AIR
Whether we’re in the living room, bathroom, dining room or on the terrace, we have the ability to listen to music wherever we are. I mean, we always have – but now we don’t have to blast it out of the living room to hear it in the bedroom of have a crackly radio in the bathroom. We have multiroom audio, meaning we can listen to different music in different rooms from the same system. And control it all from our smartphones!
OUR SMART HOME IS STILL MISSING …
… a Smart Garden to go with it. We love sitting out on the terrace when the weather’s nice, especially in the evenings, but the lighting‘s not that great out there. I’d like to Smarten things up with some cool scenes. I’m sure we’ll get around to it though!
Once again, we’d like to thank Manuel and Victoria for speaking to us about their Smart Home – it’s much appreciated!
