A home where “everything actually works” – a success story with fewer tasks

Like many of us, Bianca’s mornings are busy. Amongst the flurry of activity in the morning rush, Bianca found herself mentally running through a checklist: Will it rain today? Are the windows closed? Have I switched all the lights off? The same checklist, every morning, 365 days a year (almost). Well, at least it was that way until recently.

Total switch chaos

A collection of nine neatly arranged switches used to be the focus of the living room. Naturally, with nine switches, it’s tricky to remember which one does what, so each switch boasted a sticky label to indicate its function.

As Bianca is a Loxonaut herself, the family were well aware that the market offered alternatives to this switch chaos. However, the family found themselves wondering why they should change something that, although a little unsightly, did the job just fine. Granted, it was annoying to go from room to room every morning to switch off lights, but it was just accepted as one of those things.

The solution

When Bianca started her job at Loxone in early 2017, she was introduced to the Loxone Touch. ‘A five-point touch switch that can control a whole room?’ she thought to herself with a mixture of scepticism and curiosity.

One morning, Bianca was chatting to fellow Loxonaut, Johannes, about their morning routine. When she described the switch chaos and showed him a photo as proof, Johannes couldn’t help but smile. When asked how long this had been going on, Bianca whispered the number 14. “14 weeks?” asked Johannes in surprise. “No, 14 years” Bianca replied. There was a brief moment of silence, followed shortly by an eruption of laughter. “But at least it works”, Bianca concluded.

Easy control

Johannes offered to help Bianca make the ‘switch’ from her old way of control to Loxone. Bianca, however, was still doubtful. Maybe this touch switch was a bad idea. Would it really be practical if the blinds followed the path of the sun and opened and closed by themselves?

Despite her doubts, the conversation had sparked an interest. Bianca began to find the morning routine intolerably annoying. This was made worse when, upon forgetting to close the shutters on a sunny day, Bianca returned home to an unbearably hot and stuffy house.

The step into a new world

It was the weather that finally demanded change; another beautifully sunny day led to an unpleasantly stuffy house, and Bianca had had enough. Johannes happily got to work, and before Bianca knew it, each room was transformed with just a single switch on the wall.

At first, it took some getting used to suddenly using so few switches, but at the same time, Bianca also felt a kind of liberation. As each day passed, she began to realise how the change had had a positive effect on her everyday life and her mood. By far though, the greatest joy was the extra time Bianca had got back. Even though a task as small as switching a light seemed so trivial, the results were far from it. Bianca found herself with more time for her family (and for herself).

Today, Bianca looks back with humour on the last 14 years. No more wall clutter, no more running from room-to-room every morning and no more fear of overheated rooms.

The new
morning routine

The alarm rings, Bianca makes her morning coffee, takes the children to school and kindergarten and then goes to work. The morning routine is just as before, except now it’s more carefree and relaxed.

Bianca’s journey to fewer everyday tasks is certainly not an isolated case; many people put up with outdated technology and annoying routines in their homes every single day, not realising the benefits that automation can bring. We believe that every person in the world definitely deserves to have a little more time back every day. Even if “everything actually works” as it is.

Die neue
Morgenroutine
