Just like their business, their company building has been built up entirely with wood and is completely controlled by Loxone's Miniserver - just going to show how versatile a piece of kit it really is."

Automatic Dimming

200 lights are going to need a fair bit of energy, but they’re an essential part of making our showroom look great. We therefore use the Loxone Miniserver to dim them according to how bright the room is. Sensors measure the light level and dim the lights automatically and more strongly as you go from the inside of the room to the windows. There are also some additional lights hidden on the top of the wooden beams that go across the room. This indirect lighting helps put the showroom in just the right light.

Access with Electronic Keys

We secure our building with Loxone’s access control system and electronic keys. We’ve also got readers on all other doors and gates to allow access to key-holders; but only at certain times and for certain doors. For security we have configured individual access rights for each person. If someone misplaces their key – no big deal... Each electronic key has a unique code, which we can simply take off the system; we then just add a replacement key in – quickly and cheaply. The doors can also be opened with an iPhone if someone leaves their keys at home by accident.

Door Opens, Light On

The electronic keys don’t just control access. The Miniserver also turns on corridor lights when someone opens the door - if light is needed, of course – if it’s already bright enough then the lights will stay off or be dimmed to just the right level. In addition, when someone enters, both music and blinds are adjusted automatically.

Control ventilation based on temperature

Automated Ventilation

The ventilation here is linked by the Miniserver to the heating system. We use two temperature sensors at different heights – one close to the ground, and the other about 5 metres up - near the ceiling. Because hot air rises, the upper sensor always measures a higher value than the lower sensor. If the temperature difference is too great, then the ventilation starts and the air starts to circulate – bringing the warmer air back to the ground. Only when both sensors show roughly the same value will the heating come on to heat the room.

Heating when it's Needed

We heat our rooms using ‘teleheating’ from adjacent buildings. Temperature sensors in each room measure whether, and how much heating is required. If it’s too cold, the heat pumps are turned on by the Miniserver. The individual room heating control system delivers exactly the right amount of heat to each room which helps us keep our energy costs low.

Open and Close Windows with switch or iPhone

Our buildings have numerous windows, some of which are very difficult to reach. We therefore decided to install electric windows which can be opened and closed remotely. When we’re getting too hot in the office, all it takes is the flick of a switch and we’ve got fresh air. A flick of switch is also, thanks to the Miniserver, all it takes to close all the windows in one go when we leave the building. If the windows are still open at the end of the day, then we can just close them from home with an iPhone.

Automatically open your doors for business

Automatic Doors

During opening hours, the showroom door opens automatically when someone approaches the entrance. We obviously wouldn’t want this to happen if none of the our staff were there, but that was an easy condition to implement with electronic keys – as soon as the first employee lets themselves in with their key then the doors are set to automatic mode. If none of us are there, then the doors remain locked.

Automatic Shading Everywhere

Every room, from the showroom to our warehouse and back offices are automatically shaded using external blinds which are connected to the Loxone Miniserver. This helps us to further reduce our energy costs. If it gets too hot inside, then the blinds move to provide shading and keep out the heat. Conversely, we can open shutters to use the sun’s heat to warm our rooms. As with the windows, a single switch can open or close all the blinds – so you don’t have to go round and adjust them all individually. With an iPad we can control the blinds from wherever we are, so I can close the blinds while I’m eating my breakfast so that the office is nice and cool when I arrive..

Homemade burlar alarm

Homemade Burglar Alarm

We’ve created our own homemade alarm using the Miniserver. Outside opening hours, the Miniserver uses the motion and presence detectors to alert us to the presence of any unwanted intruders by automatically phoning us, flashing the lights and playing loud music.

Sound from Above

We’ve built speakers into the ceiling struts which are invisible from below which, together with the Miniserver and our sound system, give us the best possible quality of sound on the shop floor.
