Find out all about operating modes in this video and the different ways to use them.

An operating mode is used to control the behaviour of the building at certain times or 'modes'. These can be over several months like the seasons summer and winter, or for occasions such as Christmas holiday, and absence from the building on holidays.

Operating modes can effect individual blocks as they are part of the Loxone Periphery tree so can be dragged and dropped onto the page just like inputs. There are six predefined modes; Alarm, All Absent, Presence Simulation, Increased Heat, House in Deep Sleep, Party. New modes can be easily created in addition to these predefined ones.

Activating a mode is done in two ways, either by using a calendar entry where you then set an operating mode in type in the Properties of the calendar entry, or by turning the mode on using a pushbutton to turn a mode on and off manually using the Webinterface or apps. 

1. Create a mode

To create a new mode go to the Peripherals tab and find the operating mode under the Common drop down list. Or you can press F4 when in a page and search for 'operating mode'.

2. Name the mode

Give the mode you have created an appropriate name, in this case we will call it 'Winter mode' and it will cause a higher temperature of heating in a schedule. This is done in the Properties of the mode.

3. Create a calendar entry

To define when this mode is active automatically rather than manually turning the mode on we create a calendar entry and associate the mode with this entry. Go to the Periphery tab, and the calendar entry is found under the Common drop down list.

4. Set the calendar times

Name the calendar entry in the Properties and choose which mode the entry is in, i.e a one off day or a repeating yearly date or duration. In this case we chose 'Time span every year' and set the dates for a winter holiday.

5. Timer/Schedule

Now the mode has been setup and associated with a calendar entry we can use it within our building configuration. To add a Timer/Schedule block in either find it from the Program tab under the 'Time' drop down list or you can press F5 in the page and search for 'schedule'.

6. Add the timer

Add the timer into the relevant page in your documentation for the control of for example a heated device.

7. Setup the timer

Now the timer has been added the mode needs to be added to this timer. In our example we are using the Timer/Schedule in its analogue mode so that a temperature can be defined for the mode. Select the mode 'Winter mode' from the drop down list after double clicking the timer block. Then add the mode using the 'Add mode' button to the right.

8. Define the times for the mode

Inside the timer schedule select the times you wish the operating mode to be active. In this example we have set the temperature to be 25 degrees all day for the whole winter holiday as we are expecting it to be cold! It is important to note the value of the mode here. If several modes are defined, the uppermost mode will be used, this order can be easily re-arranged in the timer by using the up and down arrows.

9. Complete the page

The Timer/Schedule will now go into the Winter mode on the 24th of December at 00:00 and resume normal Monday - Friday operation on the 14th of January at 24:00. You can also drag the mode onto the page which will then display it's status.

10. Manual modes

If you don't want the mode to come on at a particular time of the year and you want to manually enable it, for example a Guest mode for hot water you can do that too. Simply do steps 1 and 2 to create the mode and then you can add this to a timer and give it times for hot water.

To then activate the mode connect it to a pushbutton (or a virtual input set to Switch).
